Ex-NFL RB Phillips Allegedly Runs Car Into Teens

Aug 22, 2005 9:42 am US/Pacific
LOS ANGELES (AP) Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips is in police custody after allegedly running a car into three teenagers at Exposition Park.

Police say the former Ram and 49er was playing in a pickup football game today with several 16- and 17-year-olds and got into an argument. He left and returned in a car that he drove onto the field, running down three of the teens.

Phillips was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder according to the L.A. County Sherrif's Web site.

The victims were taken to a local hospital, says Los Angeles Police Officer Sandra Escalante. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

Police were already looking for Phillips in connection with a pair of assaults on his girlfriend
in San Diego earlier this month.

The former University of Nebraska star has a history of high-profile trouble with the law going back a decade to his time as one of the nation's top college football players.
