I suggest that we make this slightly more interesting. I'm willing to put up one used USGI 30 rd mag to be given to the team in the lead at the end of the season. If we can get even half to go in, this would be 16 extra mags for the winner :)

JAFO Racing is IN, anyone else?

(I suggest that the mag be in decent working shape, but finish not that important. Most of the ones I have are pretty damn good anyway, about 85% finish on the worst.)

Edited to add: This is for the winner of our group, who puts up a mag. I'm not suggesting that a few of us put up a mag and just give to the winner, even if they opt out of this. This would be for the top of our group list, out of the people who are IN.

The mags would be sent to the AR15.com Team that is at the top of the list, and posted in that thread that they are in, at the end of the season :) I think the deadline should be before Vegas on March 2nd. This would allow anyone at the bottom of the list right now to see that a lot can change from race to race :) Whaddya say? March 1st entry deadline?

Post in THIS thread if you are IN :) Deadline is March 1st.

[blue]Edited to add: If you live in one of those states that vendors won't ship hi-cap mags to, it would be good to have an address in a state that doesn't discriminate for us to ship to :)[/blue]

I'm Crash24 and am ranked 8th after Daytona. This week I had Craven, Kenseth, and McMurray finish #3,4,5. But I also had Stewart and Nadeau. Oh well, I have 685 points for this week. Who are you?

JAFO Racing, of course ;) Well, I was ranked about 14th after Daytona, and only had two in the top 10 this race :)

Well, since I don't have any used 30 rounders, a used USGI 20 rounder will have to do.  If that's ok with y'all, then I'm in.  My team name is (duh) AR15.com's WWoodworth.  Not original, but it is descriptive.  I should probably go see how I'm ranked now, eh?

USGI is more important than 20 or 30 rd :) That's fine with me, and I doubt anyone else will care. Just no USA or Triple-K, etc. :)

Ok, so we're up to 9 mags so far?  Or did I miss someone?

JAFO of "JAFO Racing"
Sewer Urchin of "Crash24"
fifji of "fifji Racing"
1GUNRUNNER of "1GR's Rubins Racin"
WWoodworth of "AR15.com's WWoodworth"
GreenFurniture of "Green Furniture"
captainpooby of "Captain poobyracing"
nascar3n8fan of "TrueBud8Fan"
Medic08 of "Medic08's Racers"

If we take Big Bear's idea of a split of the winnings, 4 to 1st, 3 to 2nd, and 2 to 3rd?  Other suggestions?

Edited to remove Big Bear from the list, but add nascar3n8fan, so we are still at 9...

"We are going to have a contest. For first place, you get a brand new Cadillac Eldorado. Second place... steak knives. Third place is you're fired."

Yea, I guess that works. It reaks of communism, but oh well. I'll go with that. I just wish we had more people in on this. How about breaking the contest down into segments of 11 races so we can have three contests. ESPN will be breaking the season down to three segments and will start the scoring all over again every 11 races, so we might as well do the same. This will also allow people who didn't get in to begin with to join in the fun. This will also allow me 2 chances to get my mags back if I ever loose one to you bastards!! [argue]

Alright count me in.(TrueBud8fan). I was thinking that I really could use your mags.  By the way, are we doing this on the honor system.  I would hate to win this thing and not ever see any mags.  (Or in the unlikely event that I don't win I would hate to be the only one to send a mag.)  Or will there be a public flogging or firing squad in store for people who don't ante up?

Since I only own 3 magazines (okay...no snickering) I think I'd best obstain from this little contest.  I'm just in it for the fun anyway.

I think the best way to do it is keep a list of those that are going to participate.  Then of that list the top three will win the mags.

btw...anyone else have dale jr?  that little snot cost me big bucks in the begining and has done absolutely nothing (except bring my score down).

3 times this season?  No can do.  I can't afford to lose $60+ worth of mags.  Either we run for the whole season, or y'all can run with it after the first segment without me.  One mag, kewl, 3 mags, nah.  Opinions?
Link Posted: 3/5/2003 3:50:07 PM EDT
[#22]
BigBear, I was thinking you could have the mags sent to a person of your choice, who could then perhaps trade you for CA legal mags, or whatever you wish. I didn't necessarily mean anyone should circumvent the law. Sorry to see you out of it, but I understand the situation.

WWoodworth, I agree it should only be once for the season. I also don't think we should do the tier awards since there are only 9 people in. This would be 8 mags. Instead of dividing them up, I say we just send them to the winner. Perhaps if we had almost full participation, the tier system would be more appropriate.

Everyone let me know if this is ok: As originally posted, the participating winner at the end of the season will have us other participants send him one used usgi mag.

I have been advised that participating in this contest would not be a good idea because of the PRK thing. Sorry, but although it's legal to get mag replacement parts, this is probably a little bit too overt so I can't play. Good luck guys.

So is it go or no go? Are we going for all 36 races or 11? Those who are afraid of loosing 3 mags, you may also win 5. I'm still in no matter what. I will only accept replacement parts though.

I vote for all the races.  If it's a tier or winner-take-all doesn't matter to me.  I say majority rule of the 9 participants.  I change my vote to all mags (or replacement parts if the case warrants) to one person.  What do the rest say?

french mode on:

I will veto any motion for a tiered distribution. It is barbaric, communistic, and should only be used as a last resort.

french mode off:

Actually, either way is good. If I win, its winner take all. If I come in third, hmmm...

I'll go for all the mags going to the winner.  But I think it should just be for 11 races.  Hopefully if people are paying attention (Maybe we should promote it a little more the next time) we can maybe draw more in for the second and/or third segments.  Then if we have a ton of people in it there could possibly be a tier format.  Just my 2 cents.

I still think no tiers, all mags to one winner for the whole season. I think it should be USGI mags only (well, COLT also if you are so inclined).

We definately need to make this more organized next time. I am going to put togeather a new contest for the next segment of 11 races.

-All participants put in 1 USGI 30 or 20
-If there is a response of less than 20, all the mags go to the winner.
-If there are 20 or more participants, there will be a tiered format. First gets 60% mags, second gets 30% and third gets 10%.
- (Waiver)People living behind enemy lines only get replacement parts kits equaling one box, spring, follower, and floor plate. These parts are to be used as ONLY replacement parts for your current magazines and cannot be assembled into new magazines.
-Entries must be recieved by 11:59pm May 10.
-Contest ends at the end of the second segment of 11 races.
-Magazines will not be "split" if there are an uneven number of mags to be divided among the top 3. The entrant with the higher score at the Winston will be given the mag. If there should be a tie at the Winston, the Brickyard will be the second tiebreaker. If there is still a tie, the Coca-Cola 600 will be used.
-If you would like to add anything, please contact me. There will be no adding or subtracting of rules in the middle of the contest. This is afterall, MY contest.
-People who want to drop out will be forever condemned to a lifetime of shame and humiliation on AR15.com and will loose the respect of their peers.

Hopefully there will be more interest this time around. Best of luck to everyone and may the best armchair driver win.

Hey Urchin, so are we going to declare a winner at the end of this segment then and just start over with the next one?  If so this is going to be a tight one for the last race.  (Stewart's blown engine and Johnson's last lap wreck just about totally left me screwed)  Also, what does a decent usgi mag go for, most of the ones I buy are right around $20, so instead of sending parts, we could just say that if you can't receive mags, we sub $20, or if that's too much, then $15, you get the pic.  Just a suggestion. By the way, I'm in for the next one.

Nevermind, I guess Jafo's contest is for the whole season and Sewer Urchin's is just for the second segment.  Is this correct?

Jafo's is going for the full season. I just want to start my own contest. Nascar3n8 fan, who are you? How the hell are you doing better than I am. You are making me pull out my hair and grind my teeth kickin ass like you are. RIR just kicked my ass too. I had Stewart, Jarret, Newman, and McMurray. Tis a said day for the sewer_urchin.

Anyhow, for my contest, it will be for the next segment of 11 races. Jafo's goes for the entire season. I belive the fair market value for a USGI 30 is around 20 bucks. That should be up to the discression of the winners as to whether they will accept the money rather than the mag. As a PRK resident I will opt for the parts kit. Again, this is up to the discression of the winner of the segment. Tentatively, it is for a mag but the winner can accept funds if the winner chooses to do so. As for myself I want mags being in PRK and all.

Sewer Urchin, You think it kicked your ass?  I had Stewart, Sadler, Wallace, and McMurray.  Worst I've ever done.  Hey thanks for pulling through for me Mr. three time winner, Tony Stewart.  Anyway, TrueBud8fan will join up with your contest if that's alright.  The thing with the money was just a suggestion, thought it might be an easy way to solve the thing for people who can't receive mags, at their option of course.  I want the mags myself.  Anyway, looking forward to battling it out with you on the next segment.  Later

The only problem I see with the money vs. mags situation, is that some people may have mags that they bought when they were only $5 or something. It's easier for them to put some of those up instead of $20.

Personally, I won't be able to get in on the each segment thing, because I'm underemployed ;) I might need some of my mags to barter for ramen noodles and such.

If you haven't started a new thread for the new contest, please do so. It's all good :)

Good point Jafo, I hadn't even considered that.  I'm relatively new to the ar scene and all I've ever known is the $15-$25 range on the mags.  No big deal, like I said, I want the mags anyway, and since I'm going to win... lol.

Was it for 11 races or the whole season? I thought it was the whole season but if I owe someone a mag please e-mail me with your address.
