Actually, the wife does, for recording stuff. Passive cooling, flash drive, at least 2gb of RAM. That's all I ask, but my Google-fu is weak. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by recording stuff?





Audio?
If it's just audio i bet a netbook would do it.
OR - you can buy a powerful laptop and underclock it.
ETA:  Why not just get an audio recorder and then stream it to a computer later?

get a digital audio recorder and copy it off later. it's cheaper, higher quality, and easier to manage.
