Greetings.

I am sure this is a no brainer, kind of like 'Is water wet?'

I have a PCI-e X16 slot for the video card and I see some nice cards that are all PCI-e 2.0

Would putting a PCI-e 2.0 in the motherboards PCI-e X16 slot cause any problems and will it work.

I am thinking of putting this card, EVGA GeForce 8800 GS Video Card - 384MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV:
8800 GS

Or this EVGA GeForce 9600 GT Video Card - Superclocked, 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, Video Card:
9600 GT

If there a better option out there you think I should look into please let me know. I am looking in the under $200 range here. These cards have to be dictated by the motherboard I have installed already

onto this MoBo that I already have, ECS 945GCT-M/1333 Motherboard :
MoBo

Thanks in advance for your knowledge on this

Yes.
it just won't run quite as fast.

Would I be better off suiting the MoBo to the intended card then?

Shouldn't matter too much.  I assume you have a 16x pci-e slot?  That's good for 40gbps or so.

if you want wicked performance, you need a new mobo, ram and processor, hard etc... if your not turning everything on HIGH then you will be fine with a new GPU...just dont get the most expensive one, you wont get what you pay for....
