I have my clients email addresses in Outlook Express.

I need to send a mass communication to them but I don't want all of the recipients to show up in the "To" box up top.

Does anyone know how I go about keeping the recipients private?

using the address book:   create a "group"    copy or add the email address to it.  and send it

Okay, I've got everyone in a "group", but I don't see where you type the message body.

Use the BCC: line.  That is Blind Carbon Copy.  Unlike the Carbon Copy (CC:) line.

+1

And if your software won't let you BCC without someone in the TO group, put your own address in TO.
