Bought a new HP 8150. Downloaded the software and drivers from the HP site, installed it. Powered up the printer and when the software installation said to connect it I did just that. Problem is the new hardward detection wizard opens on XP and insists on attempting to install a driver. It cannot find it, and if I refer it to the HP software, it still cannot find it. Cancelling the wizard wont help either.

I checked the troubleshooting area of the HP site with no luck. Anyone ever install one of these bastards?

When the hardware wizard is trying to install the drivers, do you have the driver disk installed?  Also, click on install from a specific location.

alot of printers now.   you hook up the printer ( the power and usb cable)  when it starts to find the devices you CANCEL  each window that pops up.   its will give you numerous message that the hardware was not installed properly.   this is normal.

this is when you run the cd.  or install the driver from the web site

If it is usb, go into control panel and printers. under properties make sure the port is set to usb and not regular printer port.
