what do you know of this board?
would it be good for a gaming rig?

Just from my experience...and others would agree.  You can't go wrong with an ASUS.

Try this setup:

ASUS A8N5X Motherboard
AMD Athlong 64 X2 3800+ Socket 939 CPU
Corsair TWINX2048RE - 3200 2GB DDR400 XMS3200 Memory
ATI Radeon X1800 XT PCI Express 512MB GDDR3 Video Card (Or Video Card of Your Choice)

Throw in a 7200 RPM Maxtor Hard Drive (size of your choice), a few fans or liquid cool it and you'll have yourself a hell of a gameing system.

Just my .02

ETA:  You can find descent prices at Zip Zoom Fly or New Egg

in my experience, msi, gigabyte, asus, abit, and even biostar are just fine.

generally, if it were a machine that would get tweaked a lot, i'd probably prefer asus or abit.  i've been running abit for the past several years in my personal machine.

otherwise, i've had good experience with all of the above.

the board is brand new and free.
no my grandfather once told me, "Anything that's free, is worth saving up for"

this would make ten, yes ten PC's on my network. not including my servers.
we'll see how it does as a gaming rig.

I think you will be okay with it.  I wouldn't buy it but I would use a free one.  Good luck and happy gameing!

That's more of a "2nd computer" mother board if you will.

ASUS is the best quality you can buy.

MSI… I have had good and bad motherboards from them… many more good than bad.

Stay away from ABIT… usual good motherboards but they are in deep financial and legal do-do.
