I have an aging computer with an intel vc820 motherboard, currently running XP Pro on 256 megs.  It runs fine most of the time, but I'm trying to make it limp along another year before I upgrade to whatever motherboard and AMD processor I get next year.

The VC820 uses rambus memory, and can use 1 or 2 RIMMS , 32 to 256 megs, ECC or non ECC.  I would prefer 400mhz (PC800) ECC memory.

The problem I've run into is that any place I've priced a pair of 256 meg RIMMs, the price is within a couple of digits of the price of a new Asus motherboard and a mid-range AMD Athlon64 with a gig of ram.  That's just too much to spend on what, a year from now, will be a secondary Linux workstation.

I've tried TigerDirect, NewEgg, ZipZoomFly, and ebay.  Anyone know of any super-secret low-cost RIMM-selling hideouts?

Jim
