I've got different responses from people in regards to this question.  

To begin with I'm running a computer with XP Pro, MSI KT4 Ultra motherboard, MSI nVIDIA FX5600 (FX5600XT-TD256) video card, and a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 X-Gamer sound card.  I have recently upgraded the processor to a AMD socket A 1800 from a 1500 (I know it's still a dinosaur).  I've tried the 3DMark test and this computer got a score that was so bad that I forgot it.  I know the motherboard will accept a AMD 2800+ processor, I just waiting for one to come to the store.

My main question is about memory.  I have DDR333/512MB (1 stick) installed.  Will having 1GB help any?  The game that I seem to not get enough of is Unreal Tournament 2003.  If you have any further comments that would be of some help please reply or send them by email.  Thank you.  

I wouldn't worry about what you scored on a benchmark program!!  it does look like your board with handle up to the 2800+, with a bios flash.    

Yes more memory always help.  All of my gaming systems have at least 1Gb of memory, i would not have it any other way!!  

Yes, bechmarks have absolutely no relevance to the gaming world - at all.

Having a gig of ram definately would help, even more the merrier.

I've played the demo UT2004.  I didn't care for it.  Friends have told me that the store pc game is different than the demo.

Oh yeah, the demo does not even do it justice.  2003 is good, but 2004 is much much much better.

The vehicles are awesome.  I dont play it much amymore, but there was about a year where I was playing nothing but UT2004

Id say for the cost of memry these days and the massive pretties all the recent games have, go to 1gb of ram.  Worse comes to worse, windows will use the memory for other things such as I/O buffers and disk cache, etc.

It has unlocked multipliers so you can easily overclock it, and it runs cooler because it uses less energy. It's cheaper than the 2800+ and you can run it at 3200+ speeds easily. It's what I used before I switched over to Athlon 64.

Also, yeah, you should run 1 gig or more of ram.

+1 for the 1Gig of RAM.  It should help you some with latency, especially where there is a lot of activity on screen.

Yup - They're not being manufactured anymore. Get 'em while they're still around.


.....or, upgrade to a K8 CPU. The 754-pin K8s are cheap and perform very well - noticably better than the K7. You can re-use all your memory and video card. This upgrade would be the motherboard, CPU and CPU heatsink only.
