My current brick is a Toughbook 28. For routine surfing, forums and email checks it was ok. Dead ringer for the Toughbook in the job car. Now that I'm in a teaching position at the academy I frequently need to do Powerpoints and would like to incorporate video and occaisionally live television in these presentations. It would also be nice to pull in HDTV content, as well. While I'm at it, running Battlefield 2, Doom 3, or Halflife 2.
Now, since I'm not leaving a desktop at work off my own wallet, it's going to be a notebook. I'm looking at  the Sager 9880. 1920x1200 on 17" display, 600 series P4 processor, 1 GB+ 533 MHZ RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra 256MB graphics card, pair of 100 GB 5400 SATAs without RAID, and I'm waffling on regular XP Pro or MCE 2005 and getting integral regular TV tuner.

Really a desktop replacement I can commute with. Are there better choices that would fit the MENS? Clevo and Alienware are actually the same thing so they don't count.

I'm running and Alienware MJ-12 7700m. It screams, has more muscle than most desktops i know if. It's a mobile workstation, runs off a P4 Prescott core LGA 775 platform chip. Runs hot, runs fast.

Although on paper, these are all excellent portable rigs, They are in fact all Clevo chassis with Sager suites on CPU, mem, HDs and displays/graphics cards. Biggest difference is the paint job. This is good, however. So far you're confirming my choice.

I'm looking at an "away desktop" myself. I'm finally going to do away with my wee-little 1GHz from 4 years ago.  

The Sager-type is actually pretty good.  I've been looking at Sagers myself, though on a tad-lower budget.  I've heard of some good service under the Alienware brand.  There's another platform from Taiwan as shown by the ibuypower.com nameplate, but they're all ATI 9700 cards.  Dell's offering 6800 chips on their larger 9300 and XPS series, and if you catch them on a good deal day, the price isn't so bad either.  

If you want to try something funny, walk into a CircuitBestComp CityBuyUSA and tell the guy over in the notebook section you're thinking of spending $3k on one...but you want something that does well with the games...and he'll show you something with a Radeon 200 GPU in it...plus it'll have XBrite graphics technology!

In short, it sounds like you're on the right track for what you're looking for.

Amrel power supplies? For a desktop or batteries, maybe.
