I am running XP and after downloading Mediaplayer 10 I can't play any DVD's on my computer now, I searched microsoft.com, but no downloads unless I buy a DVD player software. WTH?

Thanks!

You need to probably load something like PowerDVD on your computer, if your DVD decoder is corrupted.

But First you can open WMP 10 go to "Play" and make sure DVD is listed with VCD and Audio CD.

Go to Tool>Options>File Types and make sure that DVD Video is checked.  If it will still not play a DVD you will now most likely need to reload a DVD Decoder.  PowerDVD usually comes with aftermarket DVD writers.  Once loaded it will work with WMP 10.

Nero Showtime media player also comes with a DVD decoder which sometimes comes with DVD writers.

ATI video cards with TV tuners often have software DVD decoders included with the software.

If your computer came with a DVD Rom then the original software on your computer should have a software decoder that can be reinstalled.

Make sure you have a DVD drive and not a CD-ROM.

You are the man! I reloaded my ATI with a custom installed for the DVD player and it all works with Window Player 10 now.

Thanks!

Your welcome.  Now I'll go back to the gun forum I hang out in and let the kids who just post smart ass remarks repeatedly help everyone out with their computer problems.

I didn't know shit about computers in 2000 when I bought my first PC.  I did learn some programming back in the 1980's.  Got kicked out of a military electronics technical school in the late 1970's.  Now I build my own computers and when it comes to problems, I've probably had them.  In my spare time away from my job, I work on co-workers computers because the Computer Systems Department guys won't touch co-workers personal computers.  Picture of some of the computers I built for myself.  All are Pentium 4's with 2 of them being 3+ Ghz processors.  Have a 4 port KVM so I control them from 1 keyboard/mouse.  Kind of cluttered looking right now as I moved them out of the room on the South side of the house for the Summer as it gets too hot but couldn't move the big computer dest out to the living room.
