Where could one get the 30 figure activation code for Norton Antivirus 2004 v10.0.1.13?

Just FYI, Symantec's activation in the 2004 and up products can detect multiple instances of installation using the same activation code and will not allow a second concurrent instance to activate.

I typically pick up my Norton upgrades for free after rebates, check Best Buy's rebates this week.

I used to use Norton but with their current activation scheme I stopped buying their products.  I often reformatted my harddrive and with Norton's activation I was screwed.

You don't need to use Norton as there are free antivirus and firewall programs out there for the asking.

I have tried all of these out and have had no problems with them.  I dropped Norton firewall and have installed the Computer Associates firewall on all of my computers.  I had separate versions of the EZ antivirus and firewall but I can't find the links so I included the EZ Armor link above which has the antivirus and firewall in one program.  When you register you get a serial number which will work for both programs I believe if you can find them separately.

The Avast antivirus runs on several of my computers currently and updates automatically just like Norton.

All three of these antivirus programs integrate with Windows XP SP2 security center.

you might want to do a little search for astalavista or crackspider.





Or better yet:  Do a little search for LINUX!

which one of these is most like Norton. I am computer literate but not like code writing. I need a user friendly program

Avast is most like Norton, but they are all simple to use.  Just make sure you remove/uninstall any other antivirus program before installing a new one.  I believe AVG you have to manually update the definitions by opening the program and clicking the update button.  Still simple, it is like doing liveupdate with Norton.  Don't remember if you have to do the same with EZ antivirus but you don't do anything other than right clicking the icon in the system tray (area in lower right corner of your desktop by the clock) and clicking autodownload.  It will then update your virus definitions if you are online.

For Avast antivirus, when you are online it automatically updates your virus definitions and a message pops-up to let you know just like Norton.  The big thing is this is all "Free".  Don't bother trying to crack Norton as the crack will install a Trojan on your system.  Believe me, I know.  Don't try downloading Norton from emule.  You will just get caught and if you are using Cox Communications, Symantec will notify your cable internet provider.

The links I posted are the free ones.  Any others will cost but the free ones will work perfectly well for what you need.  They are recommended by Microsoft.  Most computer tech shows recommend the ones I have posted.  If you have an always on internet service you should also have a firewall.  One thing you don't want on your computer is Norton Systemworks.  If you have it uninstall it.

It might also be a good idea to run an online scan after uninstalling your antivirus you have now and before installing one of the ones I have listed.  This is in case you went anytime with an old version of antivirus software which was not updated.   You can do an online scan at:   Trendmicro

You should also install and run Ad-aware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy.  Both are free and both can and should be installed on your computer at the same time.  No matter what anyone says, you can run both at the same time.

Also, never put Kazaa on your computer or you are just asking for trouble.  If you use P2P use one not containing GAIN or Gator.  It will F**K your computer up.  I recently spent 12 hours on someones computer getting all the crap off after they ran their computer for 3 years with no antivirus and Kazaa installed.  I took off 28 viruses and Trojans and they had their computer loaded with add server programs and dialers.  It's possible that I didn't get everything off and it can reinstall again.  I willo never work on anyones computer again if they have that crap on it and also do not run antivirus software when you can get it for free.  There are P2P programs that don't contain adware/spyware/GAIN/Gator or whatever they have changed their name to this year.  

Emule and Kazaalite 2.4.3 are to P2P programs that will not parasite your computer.

Ad-Aware can be downloaded here  Ad-Aware  Install and update the reference file and then run the program.

Download Spybot Search and Destroy here  Spybot S&D  During install it will have you update the reference files and then will run.  

I've had antivirus for the past two years (only had computer for 2years, 3 months) Have ad-aware, did the house call scan, and got spy bot. have old version of Kazaalite (1.7.?) and will not upgrade because I don't need it. Thanks so much for your help. I'll sleep easier tonight.

FYI. I had to re-install XP after a crash. I have Norton 2002. When Norton started up I had to fill out all the bullshit questions again just like it was a new computer again. I had let my anti-virus lapse over a year ago. For some reason I now have a 90 day free subscription.
