One answer, Spybot Search and Destroy! It's free and should remove the nasty beasts.

I second spybot S&D!
I use both programs on a weekly basis and I really have good results. Also, staying away from the free porno will limit your pop-ups and web tracking [:d[ |

i had issues with adaware a few weeks ago. it was running perfectly for a year then all of a sudden started removing some file in my registry that spyware attached to. Ire Sent me a program and its been doing a great job. other than the one issue with adaware i would recommend it. I am runnig win 98 so that may have brought its own set of issues with it.
