I got rid of my desktop pc about 4 yrs ago.
my laptop has a dvd drive I've never used. |

Yep. Don't see the sense in wasting money on a television, so laptop DVD player it is.

Yes, but I do far more than surf the interwebz and play games.
If I was building a new computer for surfing the interwebz and playing games I probably wouldn't bother. |

I've got a blu-ray writer, but its mostly for data backups. If its in the way ditch it and get a USB one if you ever need it

I've got one but I do not use it. I think I unplugged the SATA and power to plug in another hard drive.

Yes, but my case has room without interfering with anything else. If it did, I'd just put a USB3 external on it and call it a day.

I agree with the previous posts on external drives.
I had to get an slim profile external drive for my wife's MacBook Air, but now I use it for myself. If you need the space, I can't imagine you'd notice. |

For my new computer, I elected to go with a gaming laptop (with Desktop-quality processor and it's own separate graphics card) that didn't have a DVD player.
I was actually kinda concerned about that. Fortunately, it came with (this actually wasn't advertised on the site) an external DVD drive. Which I have used... once. So yeah... not necessary. |
