OK I want to set up a file server on my work network and I don't wan't to pay for a MS OS file server.

Do I use SuSe or Redhat?  What is the basic difference between KDE and Gnome and is a Samba server relatively easy to set up.  I have looked around and have some info but would appreciate some other user input.

Thanks,
