This wasn't progressive, it started about four days ago. I can make quick short posts if I get 'em in early & fast, but I haven't been able to update the feedback since this started and I'm getting kind of desperate.
When I get online everything works fine (for dial-up). At first! But after awhile everything slows down bad. This old PC usually loads an AR15.com page w no images in about eight or ten seconds (if the server, my IP, etc., are working ok).
For the last few days it's been taking 30+ seconds, and that's only at first!
There doesn't seem to be any certain amount of time, sometimes ten minutes, sometimes an hour, but it gets so bad that the page never stops loading. It finally gets so bad that that it's almost locked-up (takes at least 10 minutes to scroll to the bottom of a topic while holding on the scroll-bar!).
When I log-off every program runs fine (as a matter of fact, except for the browser, everything seems to run ok while I'm hooked-up).
I thought the processor was overheating at first, but nothing's blocked, both fans are running fine, room is at a constant temp, case isn't removed (no new smells or fires yet[;D]), etc.
Nothing's changed, no new programs, not getting dll errors, nothing...
I've done the incredibly "obvious" stuff like clearing the cache. Even turned-off images, animation, dithering, etc. Tried just rebooting to, but nothing seems to help.
I hoping like hell I haven't tried "the obvious" & this is just a software problem?
SANGUINE's post made me want to build a new bare-bones kit so bad I can almost taste it! But a new kit or even a WallyWorld "$499 special" is out of the question for financial reasons right now.
Help! What am I missing (besides brains & money)?
