Hard-Case,
Where did you get Kazaa Lite from?
I have Kazaa and every time I minimize the screen I get aa error deal that asks if I want to continue running scripts?
Someone said they had the same problem until they switched to Kazaa Lite.

Thanks,
BigDozer66

um....www.kazaalite.com...

I'd recommend downloading the full exe with host file, and follow their instructions on using it. Helps to block a lot of unwanted popup ads.

On windows, hit the Prnt Scrn button and paste it into a new image.  MS Paint will do.

I would post a screencap of my XP and KDE desktops, but I'm reluctant to involve myself with a thread started by the Bastard Operator From Hell. I would like to keep my user account.

No reskinning on my end. Figured I'd post for all, as I've been asked about it both here and by friends.

The 'skin' of the desktop is Chrome[XP] v2.0, which can be found at www.themexp.org. Contrary to popular belief, you don't neeed to buy a program to work with user made themes. You can, as I did, download a modded version of the uxtheme.dll file. Put it in your system directory, and then you can see and select custom installed themes from the Display Settings menu. Nice, simple, easy.
And as it's a theme working directly with windows, and not something like WindowsBlinds, you don't have the trouble with slowdown whatsoever.
The little program I use at the bottom is called ObjectDock. It's a replication of the toolbar found in OSX. That can be found at
http://www.stardock.com/products-END Of Object Attempt-
dock/. Free download. Icons can be found at places like DeviantArt or Wincustomize. If you download the right progs, you can even convert Apple icons over.

I usually get my ideas from 'post your desktop' threads on some of the computer boards I frequent, like Ars|Technica's forums or the [H]ard|Forums......you can see some really great stuff there.

So... what you are really saying is you re-skinned your desktop by adding the custom program (the new DLL you referred to), and are using a similar program, called ObjectDock, which is created by the same people who created Stardock Window Blinds.... gotcha. [;)]

I will look into the custom DLL and I will probably stay away from Stardock products: they slow you down. I've seen other skinning apps out there, some where you rewrite the entire shell application (basically make your own shell). In my line of work, rewriting the behavior of the shell is NOT a good idea, since it can cause problems with the functionality of other applications and development.

BTW: I love DeviantArt.com. Tons of cool desktops. I haven't been there in a while...

I checked out the URL you mentioned, and they state that you must download StyleXP from TGT Soft, which has a free trial (that can be purchased). StyleXP will then work with themes which you can download from the URL you specified.

Where did you find the uxtheme.dll?

Yep...it's a great site. Except for some reason I can not connect to it from work. Not a proxy issue either, as instead of the proxy message the connection always times out.

In the case of Object Dock, it isn't a rewrite of the shell, nor does it do any mucking around with the core system. All it really is is a toolbar app. Basically, a shortcut organizer that supports the use of higher quality graphic icons. It's not like their other apps, and I've noticed no difference with it running or not running. It's freeware, and only an executable. But all in all, it's not really an important thing.

You should be able to download it from here:
http://www.lightstar1.com/install.htm

They have a version of the file for Windows XP, and a separate one if you've gone to XP SP1. I followed the manual instructions to set it up, and it worked like a charm. Still working on changing the opening and login screens, though. Changing the login is easy, but making the opening screen look good is not.
