I am putting together a better computer than I currently have.  I'm trying to keep it around $500.00.  I have a video card and the hard drives (Samsung SSD and a 1 TB HDD).  



Are there better options?  Any suggestions?  I have this stuff sitting in my cart at checkout.

Not a big fan of your case/psu. otherwise fine for what you're aiming for.

Recommend NZXT or Fractal Design for case. A 750W full modular PSU from EVGA can be had at that price range.

Why are you going with an amd build?  You are shooting yourself in the foot regarding performance/thermals/energy consumption, for minimal cost savings.

16GB of ram is overkill, drop it down to 8GB.

As mentioned earlier, you would be better off with a higher quality PSU that is more appropritate for your systems power draw.  (650W max, even a ~550W psu would be more than sufficient)  Look into corsair and seasonic.

NZXT S340 is a great case. I built a system using it and it's a good combination of value, airflow, and dust-prevention. No 5" bays though, but who uses CD  drives anymore. HDD slots are a tad limited, but can accomodate a SSD/HDD just fine.

2x8GB ram is a good value proposition.


There's been a lot of hate against AMD chipsets on the forum recently, and I honestly don't know why. I personally build mostly with intel, but AMD is not some retarded cousin that drools over itself. It works, and at $140, it sure as hell can go toe to toe against a i3 or Pentium G3258

AMD is a less expensive option.  I have an intel i7 laptop and an AMD Phenom II X4  945 right now. The laptop is a couple of years old and the desktop is about 5 years old.  I've changed the PSU and I'm about to go blind looking at the number of cases out there.  



If I drop down to 8GB of RAM, that may offset the increase in the cost of the Intel chip.



Then I'd have to find another MB.



RAM is cheap, but I would like to hear the reason for less RAM (Seriously, I don't know that much about it).

A little over $500 but has wifi and gig-E and draws very little power.

#1:  What state do you live in?  If it has a microcenter, you can get intel cpu's rather cheaply.

#2:  As I mentioned the price difference between intel and amd is minimal.

As for the ram?  You will not be making use of more than 8GB.  So going for a 16GB kit is a waste of money.
