I picked up a 1GB Sd card to go with the I832 that I got my wife for Christmas. Depending in Megapixels you can take 220 or 247 pictures. Is that a little excessive or was I justified in thinking that having that kind of storage is usefull for a vacation etc? Thanks

I thought it was overkill getting a mem stick for my sony camera.

It ain't. IT is alot easier to just take pictures and weed them out during transfer to the computer than try and weed them out on the camera. There are some that looked like hell on the camera that actually looked neat on screen and vice versa. Think of it as a magazine with unlimited shots.

I take alot of video as well with my little Sony. It is nice to have the space.

Try going to New Zealand for 2 weeks on a 256 MB.

Most good photographers will auto-bracket their shots, which means whatever exposure setting you have, it will shoot one F stop below and one above the set one, which means you can end up with 3X the number of shots each time you press the shutter.

I have a Canon digital SLR and carry 2-3 1GB cards, and an Apacer Disc Steno to burn my cards off nightly.

Man, I have two Extreme III 1GB cards for the Canon XT 8.1.

I thought I was undergunned.

I think I have it set to take mid-grade pics right now -- ~3300x1600 or whatever the middle setting is. I am able to fit about 440 pictures on each 1GB card.

Never too big.

I run two 4gb microdrive and two 6gb microdrives. when you get up in file size you need the space. I like to shoot uncompressed NEF in my camera, so each image is between 18-22 megabytes.

Thanks, you guys really know your stuff. There really should be a tacked terms and abbreviations for Photography & Photoshopping so camera noobs( like me) can have a clue.

I don't think the amount of space is overkill. I do think it is a mistake to buy one giant card if that is all you're going to own. If you lose/damage that card, you've just lost all of your photos and all your storage space. I purchased a 512mb card for my mom's EOS 10D. In retrospect I should've purchased two 256mb cards. Sitting around while that monster transfers half a gig of files through a USB port is a real drag.
