I used to have a printer/scanner that could create a printed photo from a developed 35mm negative. The software was not compatible with a newer versions of Windows and it all had to be scrapped. Can anyone recommend a "lower price" printer/scanner that will work with Windows 10? Unfortunately, the cheap printer/scanner I have today do not have the capability. I have many 35mm negatives that are more of a "sensitive" nature and I really do not want to take them anywhere (besides where?). The wife tore up the originals, sure like to get the hardcopy or digital images back.

By any chance did you do a search and have any brands? My father in law has tons of slides from WW2 and eventually I'm going to do the scan.

I have a Canon MP620 Pixma I bought years ago that works for that although they do not come out anywhere near as good as a photomat would do. (is that still a thing?). Probably would have to play with them in a photo editor afterwords to get the colors to come out right.

I've got a Dimage scan dual IV, it's relatively old. I used a 3rd party software interface called Vuescan. It has carriers for slides and 35mm film.
I'm just wishing I could find something to scan larger format negatives. I have a flatbed scanner that claims it can on my amazon wishlist, but I have my doubts. They haven't made backlit scanners in years. ETA: It's just a scanner, not a printer. |

you can park a 35 mm in front of a dslr macro lens and take a picture of the transparancy

There are plenty of online digitizing services that will promise you discretion. I’d recommend that route.

In addition to the camera adapter posted above, there are dedicated slide/ negative scanners, and some of the Epson photo scanner series have transparency units with slide and negative holders. I'm sure other manufacturers have some as well. But they aren't exactly cheap.
As for sending slides/ negatives off for scanning... if whatever shipping service you use loses your package, they're gone. For me, it's not worth the risk with old family photos that cannot be replaced. It's a decision you have to make. |

Not too local!! Don't need them saying "Hey- Kathy looked great in those nude photos!! We will see you in church next Sunday!"
I just hate it that I had a scanner then Microsoft did an upgrade and my scanner software no longer worked. The photos came out really well from the negative scan. At least I have those photos digitized. The VHS stuff I probably will not send out as well. I'd like to at least know the guys name before he watches her on "film"! |

Not cheap, but I have one of these:

Biggest problem is that most of what I wanted to scan is on 35mm slides, and contrary to what Kodak told us, Kodachrome does not last forever, and Ektachrome, even the more expensive versions are no better. You end up having to do some fairly extensive color correction. Color film is a little better. Here is an example, my son, who was trying to grow a monster pumpkin, which the dog chewed through the stalk of before it got to the monster stage. He is 39 now.  Attached File |

That looks like it does a great job! (Dang dog! :O) )
I think I am going to check around with some friends to see if they have anything. I may see if I can borrow- or- at worse, give them an early Christmas present and see if we can scan on his system. Sure- he may have them then on his system, but kind of a price you pay. I really don't want to put that kind of money into it. I know there are cheaper options and will research them. Quality may not be as good- but at least I have more than a negative to look at. |

Most scanners have a slide tray; just scan them and then print the ones you want.
