For the money, could not be happier with the Tamron 70-200mm G2 2.8 I picked up a while ago.   It's a good fit for my D7500 and I'm very happy with both the camera and the lens.

But now, I feel the need for a 24-70mm Tamron G2 lens.   Looking at about $1200 if purchased thru BandH Photo or Adorama.

I would almost consider grey market, as I think the lens could be picked up for around $900 on Ebay, however, not sure how the firmware update would work with a grey market.   Also, being a fairly sophisticated lens, I want a solid warranty.

Options?

I thought the 17-55mm were basically kit lens?    Also, I like VR or whatever you call it.    Guess I got some research to do.   Thank u.

I had one of the old Tamron 17-50 f2.8 years and years ago when I had my D40. I loved that lens, it blew the kit 18-55 out of the water and then some. I'm sure the glass and lens technology has come a long way since 07 on these and they are still a solid bet.

Yeah, about 10 times the price.  Speed comes at a price.

The kit 18-55 gives surprisingly good images considering the cost.  What you don't get is aperture and build quality.  The focus motor on my 18-55 died about 2 years after I got it with the D50.  Replaced it with the 18-105, which is also a kit lens, but with some better build quality.

That still works fine, but got supplanted by the 24-120 f/4.
