Looking for the best Nikon body under $1000

What size frame?
What kind of photography are you into?
What are your must have features?
What kind of lenses do you use and plan to buy in the future?
What do you use now and why do you think you need to switch?

Mostly pictures of my son and nephews playing sports. Basketball, baseball, and football.

I currently have a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.

Don't need video.

Buying a computer to edit soon.

These are excellent questions, but for a Nikon body under $1000, the D7200 is the default answer.

This.  Fantastic camera for the money.  The only reason I got rid of mine was upgrading to full frame, otherwise I'd still be rocking it.  When I have the money, unless I go with a D500 or something, I'll likely get another.

D7200 new from Nikon $999
B&H refurbished D7200 $730

I picked up a refurb D7500 recently off ebay (Buydig) for $808 delivered.   Have a Tamron G2 70-200mm on it.

Gonna find out tomorrow nite how it compares to my old D7000 at the local football game.  Pretty excited and so far very happy with it.

Wanted a D750 or D500, but for the price, I cldn't pass on this deal.   It had 11 clicks on the shutter.

Sounds like you have the camera part figured out.

What you will quickly realize is that 200mm is too short for field sports like football and baseball.
This will quickly become expensive if your kids play at night under the lights, which are very dim at the high school levels.
