Just bought a refurbed Nikon D7200 from B&H for $699 thanks to them price matching a competitor.

No more swiping through menus like I had to do on the D5300!!

Now to go pick up a copy of the D7200 for Dummies book.

all DSLRs are pretty much the same in terms of operation.

The D7200 is a great camera. There are a few owners and former owners that hang out in the photo forum, myself among them.

We can help you with any issues you may have.

Will do!

You'll love the camera.  I spent some time on YouTube watching how other people set their menus and button operations up.

Congrats!  Own one myself, quite pleased with it after all this time with it.

Camera was delivered today. I haven't had time to give it more than a once over, but the finish on the body is pristine. Not a mark on it. Once I get home I'll be able to examine it closer while charging up the battery.

Umm...  No.

Well, sure, they all take pictures, but try simultaneously changing aperture and shutter on a D5XXX body

Damn, that's basically a brand new camera. Lucky you!

Yeah, I was expecting a couple thousand at the least.  Explains why there isn't a mark on it.

Just the feel of it in my hands is worlds different than my D5300.

This is my first DSLR so I don't have anything to compare, and I haven't come close to mastering all the features, but I've been really happy with the pictures I'm able to take with it. I can't wait to be good enough to upgrade but until then I don't know what I'm missing with the 7200

And of course, the battery is dead.

Damnit!

Ok, playing a little bit, and it may just be all in my head, but the 7200 seems to focus faster than the 5300.

Has to be in my head.  The focus motor is in the lens, not the camera.  New toy throwing my perception off, I guess.

The motor is in the lens, the brain that powers it is in the camera.

The D7200 focus system is far superior to that of the D5300.

It's pretty snappy and with good glass perfectly usable.

The D500 is an entirely different animal though.

Checked it with my 35mm 1.8

Played around with my brother in laws Canon 5D with a 400 prime L series lens last weekend.  Holy fuck was that thing fast to focus!

Please continue posting updates on how you like it as you get more experience with it. The D7200 is what I'm seriously considering (or the D7500). It's probably more advanced than I'll ever need, but I want something I can grow into.

First Moon pic - only editing was to zoom in with Nikon Capture NX-D

Used the Nikkor 70-300 4.5-5.6G ED lens

The only issue I've had so far is trying to turn the front dial and turning the power switch by mistake.

I like the camera though.  Once you start figuring out the controls, it's a hell of a lot easier than the menu driven system on the 3xxx and 5xxx series.

This should never be a problem.

First finger stays by the shutter button. Next finger rolls the wheel.

Yeah, that seems to keep the "doh's" to a minimum.

Back button focus is the shit!  So much nicer than using the half press on the shutter button.

Yeah, I know they are underexposed.  Did it as part of the learning process as to how aperature, iso and shutter speed interact.  Call it playing around for the sake of experience.

But even the way they are, there is just something about them that pleases MY eye.  And as a hobbiest, that is the most important part to ME.
