The 7100 has excellent low light/ high ISO performance. Flipping mind blowing, really.
Yeah it still gets a bit noisy but it's not overwhelming, even when cranked to max. A few trips to the PI ago, I did a night time ambient light shot and while it was noisy...it was respectable. My prior D90 couldn't have even come close to getting that shot.
ISO eqivalent of 25,600.
This was about a year back but I'm reasonably confident that it was done in aperture priority. 2.8 on the aperture, max ISO, exif says 1/13 for the shutter speed. VR came in handy here.
Sure, it's noisy as fuck. But...if this was a once in a lifetime shot that just couldn't be done any other way...I'm ok with it.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention..this wasn't a RAW. This was straight to JPG and essentially spat straight outta the camera with minimal processing.
