Intel Cereon 2.8 Ghz 1 G 2700PC DDR Ram (2x 512mb) ATI Radeon 9600XT of course SBC DSL PRO... |
Athalon 3600 HT
2 gigs Ram Geforce 5700 fx theres the important stuff |
I am running a brand new SLI setup to play Battlefield 2.
Athlon64 X2 4600+ (Manchester core) 2 Gb Mushkin 2-2-2 special, PC3200 (2-2-2-5 timings) 4x512 sticks Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard 2x 400 gig hard drives, 2x 250 gig hard drives, 1 WD Raptor 10,000 RPM hard drive 36.6 gb Soundblaster Audigy 2zs 2x EVGA 6800 Ultra 256mb cards, in SLI Dual Monitors, both Samsung 172x flat panel 17" monitors. Razor Diamondback mouse OCZ Power Supply Water cooling on the video cards and the processor. ---------------- BF2 runs great |
amd 3200+ overclocked
ati x800xtpe overclocked/voltmodded 1gb of corsair xms overclocked |
A64 3500+ (Winchester) OC'd to 2.4 Ghz (3.8Ghz P4 equivalent)
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe ATI X850XT PE @590mhz core X 595 mhz memory (I know, why get an ATI when you have an SLI MB.....future proofing) 1 GB Ballistix 2-2-2-5 @ DDR400 Sucky ass 17" monitor |
wat up with everyone using AMD??????????????
INTEL NOT GOOD ??? |
More bang for the buck with gaming and AMD. If you are doing video editing, or sound editing go with Intel, but AMD slaps Intel around like a bitch when using gaming apps. |
Whats wrong w/ getting an ATI to use with an SLI board? Won't ATI gpu's run double in SLI mode? Or am I missing something? |
MB: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
CPU: AMD Athalon XP 3000+ RAM: 1 GB DDR400 PC3200 HD: SATA Maxtor 120 GB VID: ATI Radeon AIW 8500DV (only 64 meg vram) MOUSE: Logitech MX518 gaming mouse 1600 dpi. Net: Cable 3000-3500 kbps/ 400-512 kbps Plays pretty smoothly and still looks nice with the ancient and bleow spec video card. Definitely over due for a graphic card upgrade. I will probably go add another 1 Gb of RAM soon also. |
AFAIK SLI is for Nvidia cards only. ATI has a similar technology for running two cards called CROSSFIRE, but this requires a motherboard with a chipset that specifically supports CROSSFIRE. |
Yep. SLI is nvidia exclusive. Last I heard, there were some serious issues with getting crossfire to even work properly. Nvidia - the way its meant to be played |

Acer 8100 laptop
512mb DDR2 533mhz PCI express 1.9ghz 2mb cache Pentium M Radeon Mobility X700 it can keep up with the big boys |

I'm playing on a homebuilt system, keeping all details at about medium, res at 1024x768 I think, with no problems on my end, though on 64 player servers it lags a bit.
Got a AMD athlon 64 3200+ ASUS K8V Pro mobo 1.5 Gigs generic ram MSI geforce 6600gt 128mb 80gb 7200 rpm main drive 120gb 7200 rpm storage drive all on mediacom cable. |

My main computer:
P4 2.8E @ 3.2 Gigabyte 8IK1100 rev2 Patriot 1GB PC3200 @ 230/460mhz CL2.5 Dual channel ATi 9500 Pro Can play BF2 with 1024x768@85 with all settings at medium My second computer: AMD XP-M 2600 @ 2.2 Abit NF7-S v2 (Not S2) Kingston 512MB PC3200 Dual Channel ATi 9700 Pro I have it set at 1024x768@75 with all settings at medium. Both of my computers run great on 16/32/64 player servers, the second is lacking in ram so it gets some lag for the first 5 minutes of game play till it can load into the page file. |
2.4ghz P4
512meg ram ATI Radeon 9500 Pro with 128meg 120gig main drive, 80gig backup drive Comcast Cable I'm playing in 1024x768 with most stuff set to medium, I think. I do ok on 16 and 32, but 64s arent very good. I'm thinking about upgrading to a faster system with RAID'ed harddrives (losing all my class data and MP3s right before my last semester of undergrad to a harddrive crash sucked ass, at least it was under warranty), more ram and definitely a better video card, the current one would become my server if I can find an older LCD monitor from work that nobody cares about. |
This is correct. You have to get a MB with an Ati chipset, and then Crossfire is a bit different then SLI in how it actually works. With Crossfire you have a "master" card that can be paired with another "slave" card of the same GPU type. Whereas with SLI, there is not master or slave. |

Bah! Throw me up against ANY *single* Nvidia gpu except the new 7800GTX and my X850XT PE will stomp it into the ground and piss on it. Although the 6800 Ultra will keep up and maybe have a few FPS (as in 3-5) faster in OPEN GL games *ONLY*. Otherwise, if it is a D3D game, proceed with the stomping and pissing (such as farcry....battlefield 2....ect..). ETA: When the R520 comes out (X900XT) it will bend over the 7800GTX without any lube. |

The Sempron and Celeron D arnt exactly preferred gaming processors.
let see some Athlon64 vs Pentium 4 graphs. I must say the Pentium M ownes everything in the moble market. Im a AMD desktop Intel Moble guy. |

Uhh, 90% of the Intel CPU's are have seen reviewed are hotter then a comparable AMD, so there is no basis there. And all of the benchmarks that I base my opinion on are from hardware review sites and personal experience, not from an AMD or Intel marketing person. |

If interested in the heat issues, copy this into your browser: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/p4-temp.html Intel's CPUs are DESIGNED to run at certain temps. AMDs may run cooler, but are they DESIGNED to run at a specific temp? (This is an interesting article...I learned a LOT reading this.) By the way...my PCs are FREE. (I did, however just make a trade for a Dell Optiplex for an SKS...The dell is for surfing.) My free PCs just happen to include Intel processors...I boost performance by using upgraded memory and video cards...probably just like everyone else that tries to save the world from the evil Nazis or the slithering space aliens via thier PC. If I were using an AMD processor...I would still do the same thing. I don't market for anyone...I'm a blue-collar worker...I just turn wrenches and grab the paycheck when they hand it to me. I didn't mean for this to turn into a "Chevy vs. Ford" argument. Soooo......I'm about to upgrade my video card to 256...any suggestions or real user reviews out there? |

It's not on 60hz. Should I go higher? |

I'm running:
Athlon 3200+ 939 core Gigabyte Nforce 250GB motherboard 1 gig of 400mhz DDR in dual channel mode Maxtor SATA 160gig drive EVGA 6600GT Video card It runs all my other games like a champ but I can only run Battlefield 2 @ 1024x768 w/ medium settings except high for special effects and textures. I also run 2x Anti-Aliasing with 100% drawing distance. Too be honest I expected more out of BF2 but there is alot going on in that game. |

AMD Vs Intel
Step 1: Go to pricewatch.com and pick two processors of similar price. $270 - Pentium 4 650 $260 - Athlon 64 3700 Step 2: Go to tomshardware.com and check out the 3DMark03 benchmark... Athlon 64 3700 - 1018 Pentium 4 650 - 996 AMD wins, end of debate. |
