Before then, here are some methods of self defense.  I carry a pen which can be used to blind (laser) or stab an assailant.  Costs $4.00 and you can write with it, too!

Got pepper spray, and insist my wife and daughters carry it.  It's outlawed in Great Britain as an "offensive weapon," as are pocket knives.

I carry a pocket knife (knives), and at times I pack a pistol.  I have a NC CCW and have carried both opensly and concealed.

BUT - best defense is to anticipate trouble and avoid it!
