My search is over.  I recently took a consulting job in Baton Rouge, LA and moved here a week ago.  I did a google search looking for gyms to join when I got down here.  I found a few that I wanted to take a look at but after figuring out where I wanted to live I ruled 3 of the 4 out due to distance.  So I drove over to the gym to check it out and it's AWESOME.  Not a single piece of cardio equipment in sight.  Chalk tubs, chains, bands, a row of power racks, deadlifting platforms, bumper plates and compitition benches filled the room.  I think I heard harps when I walked in but I can't be sure...

The best part about it is that you get a key and can work out 24/7.  I work out at like 5:30-6:45am so it was empty both times I worked out this week.  I have control of the stero, no waiting for equipment and everything I need to take my strength training to the next level.

I'm psyched.

Congradulations! If you think thats great wait till you get to know some of the other people there, maybe you can end up with some training partners out of it.

Yeah, I met the owner who happens to be a 2003 World champion lifter (didn't ask what lift or federation) but they have a white board on the wall and there are several 500+ lb bench pressers there.

Having workout partners would be a huge help in getting my strength up but with my work schedule it's tough.

Probably a lack of cardio bunnies to look at

You will definitely see an improvement in your lifts just from being there.  There are several IPF Worlds lifters at the dungeon I train at.  Training at places life this is not for the average gym goer, though.

My gym has the cardio equipment up front, then the machines and dumbell racks, then you go through a doorway into the power section.  Smith machines, benches, leg press, dl platform.

I'd love to find a gym like that. Some hole in the wall with nasty old rusty equipment designed purely to build muscle.

At least I'm stronger than the girls who lift here.

ETA:  Holy $#!T, maybe I'm not stronger than the girls who work out here...

Yeah, apparently he's a local guy.  I think he operates a supplement company because their are flyers on the wall where he's selling squat shoes and creatine/protein powder, etc.

Aside from my first day when stopped by around noon to check the place out and met the owner Paul Fletcher (2003 world champion) I haven't seen a soul in the place but that's because I work out at 5:30am.

Here's some video of Wade Hopper working out at the gym.

Call me crazy but shouldn't you have a partner when doing bench. That or a panic button to the local 911 center.

Great looking place.  Just be careful when lifting alone.

Yeah, the incline bench is the only excercise that I can't self spot on.  For flat bench they have spotter arms that will catch the bar if you miss a rep.
That said, don't underestimate adrenaline from fear of getting stuck at helping to get that last rep up.
