I conducted a 2-day Basic Precision Rifle course this past May 3-4 at Elk River Training Center in Pelham TN.

All students were highly successful out to the maximum distance of 900yds. Each one had multiple, consecutive hits at 900yds.

All students but one were shooting .308. The single exception was shooting a .223, a self-built 18" AR with a polygonal-rifled, 1:8", Black Hole barrel and Black Hills reman 77grn SMK. Very nice shooting combination.

The .308 shooters were using a mix of factory (BH, Fed and Southwestern) and handloaded ammo. 1 shooter was using 168's, the rest were 175's.

Half the class were running a mix of NIghtforce optics. The others were running a Vortex Viper PST, SuperSniper, Bushnell Elite and IOR. There was a mix of mil and MOA reticles and adjustments.

The sole autoloader in the class was the aforementioned .223, the rest were bolt actions. 1 Savage, a factory Remington, a GA Precision, 2 Accurate Ordnance builds (one on a Defiance action and the other on a Rem700), a Walker Custom Rifles build and an HD Rifles build.

We had no optics problems during the course.....probably because no one was using a Leupold Mark 4 or USO!

I'm planning the next training evolution for these folks, they were a great bunch.
