I'd be up for a day hike - I've been doing shorter (3-5 mile) rucks with 30 lbs 2-3 times a week. I would hope I could handle longer distance with less (or no) weight, just would pack the essentials.
I can't do next weekend, I have a pistol class that Sunday and wouldn't want to wake up that morning unable to move, ha. (edit: spelling) |

The trail up is a bit of a calf burner, as you gain about 1900 feet in 1.3 miles, or something like that. Big summit with 360 degree views. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Ok, here is my tentative plan. I postponed Haystack, Basin, Saddleback for this saturday, and the weather looks very promising. The following saturday, Aug 6th, I will be finishing my High Peaks on Esther and Whiteface (weather pending). Dinner afterwards at Smoke Signals. Anyone is welcome to join me!

You know you can drive to the top of Whiteface, right? Same view, less sunstroke.

View Quote Oof that’s a 3.5 hour drive for me (one way)… I’ve been to Whiteface as a kid, don’t remember it much. How beginner-friendly are they? Like I posted above I’ve been doing 3-5 mike rucks a few times a week with about 30 lbs plus water. If I drop the weight the hike itself would be much easier I’d think, but I wouldn’t want to slow anyone down. (I’ve done a few 8 mile rucks to push myself but usually stick to sub-5, eventually would like to get APC qualified but I’ve been rucking solo) |

Seems as if you are accustomed to flat hikes, you should work your way up in difficulty, not start with the 5th highest peak in the state. Explore AllTrails app. Maybe start with some milder ascents, firetower trails, etc.

Quoted: I'm sure you've done your research, but street and nye were uneventful to say the least. If its kinda wet its shit in a couple of spots. Just take your boots and socks off at the water crossing and use water shoes. Leave them on the bank after the crossing and reuse them on the way back. That way you dont have to hump wet water shoes the rest of the 3/4 of the hike. Theres a shit mud section. Both peaks have a tiny view of other peaks if you stand on your tiptoes. Enjoy the journey and that is the reward on these two View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: I cannot join you for the hike but possibly can join you for dinner. It was long and difficult. A lot more elevation gain than Cliff and Redfield. Wind at the summits was brutal, like 50mph. It was a bit more cloudy than I had hoped, but still beautiful. Lots of other peaks visible.

Awesome pics!
The majority of people I talk to say Haystack is their favorite. All trails has the length at roughly 20 miles. Did you find that to be accurate? You’re almost there. |

Throughout the day- 2 bananas, 2 PB&J sandwiches, a Greek yogurt protein smoothie, some trail mix, a protein bar, venison jerky, an oatmeal cream cookie, about 4 liters of water and a quart of pedialyte. |

I already completed the TL triad and FC trifecta in 2020, so I did them both again this past winter for the winter patches. In fact, Old Forge was 1/2/22, my first outing after catching Covid at the superspreader CNY ARF Christmas dinner party.

That Christmas party photo reminds me of a funny story. Turns out 1201 and I are related by marriage.
I’ve known 1201 for some 25 years, and had met Junior several times, but not Mrs 1201. Until a couple years ago at KCR. She asks where I’m from originally, and I reply Rochester area. And she asks if I know two people she names. Now Rochester area encompasses, what, a million people? So the probability of my knowing one of them is 1 in 500,000. It’s actually lower since I avoid Monroe County like the plague. But I’ll be darned, I DO know them, they’re my wife’s great uncle and aunt. And they are the same for Mrs 1201. Small odd world. |

Would anyone be interested in a canoe/kayak camping trip at the end of october for a few days?
Doesnt even have to be on the water, we could go camp in moose river plains or west canada. If I plan it now I can block off the time. If anyone is interested I’ll start a separate thread |

Aspiring no more!
Hiked Esther and Whiteface to finish my 46’er challenge. The heat and humidity really got to me hiking up the hardest section (Marble Mountain) and I couldn’t guess how many pints of sweat I dropped. Hazy views, but I don’t care, I got that shit done! Beers and champagne at the summit, and beer and bourbon at Smoke Signals, which is an excellent bbq restaurant.
