Update for you guys who may know or not know what was going down. Army Corps of Engineers was sought out by the town of LB years ago to build some of relief to aid with up to a 12' storm surge. The cost was close to 90 million (6 and change from town of LB, 24 from NY State). Sand was to be dredged up from 3 miles out and brought back in to raise the level of the beach to 10 or 15' ( i forgot).
I went down there to join some guys from surfrider and stayed until about 1020 before leaving. Long beach residents overwhelmingly seemed opposed to this due to the loss of the beach, rip currents caused by the buildup, loss of funds in the local economy from people not coming to the beach and other issues. 1 May is the deadline for NY state to give a go or not and the town of long beach requested that any comments, letters, data be sent to them by 10 April so they can compile it.
Just giving you guys a heads up
