Every once in a blue moon I go out east to visit someone in Bohemia. While there, I make a nice little trip to Mastic to the Poospatuck indian reservation to buy some cigars. Tax free of course. In the last few months, I've been seeing on the news how the state and county do not recognize the tribes and arrest people making large purchases of cigs. I buy backwoods cigars by the box. They come 6 to a box with 8 cigars in each for about 21 bucks. I hear the stores there are now collecting social security numbers or DL info. Anyone know if this is true? I know I can refuse to give my SS# but I do have to show my ID as proof of age. Also, if I get pulled over for suspiciaon of buying tax free tobacco, I can refuse to let them search my truck right? There will be nothing in plain view, no probable cause. I think I may just drive around the reservation first and back out to county streets to see if there's reaction. Any ideas?
*UPDATE* Went late this morning and no cops around. It was a breeze. I asked the girl there if the cops are still giving people a hard time lately and she said not really.
