In this thread, it was pointed out to me that I may have been wrong in my interpretation that I'm not allowed to have a mini-14:

I didn't read the other thread, but here's the scoop:

If you have a NYC rifle/shotgun permit, you can own a Mini 14, but:

- It can't be the Ruger GB model (preban with flash hider);

- The Mini 14 can't have even one evil feature (folding stock, flash hider, pistol grip, bayo lug);

- You can't have any mags w/more than 5 round capacity.

If you meet all of the above a Mini 14 is OK.

Sweet.  That means I could keep it in the city and stash hicaps outside the city so I can rip it up at the range.  Getting preban mini-14 highcaps might be a problem though.
