Are the Romanian AKs the only AK-47s legal in New Jersey?

Lilkicker-

I know that MAK-90's and SAR's are legal, but I'm not sure about any of the other variants.

As far as I know only Mak -90 and Sars. Mak-90's are close to impossible to get (they are preban and demand a fat wallet) SARs are the only way today, so get them while you can.

Can I bring into the state a MAK-90, or do I have to find one within the state? The prices are not the bad. The prices range from $300.00 to $500.00 each. The price of the SARs is around the same price.

I know someone locally selling his for $270, but it has a thumbhole stock on it. Could I change the furniture to a pistol grip?

Also are all Mak-90's preban or are some post?

I think a MAK-90 is postban. I dont think it is legal to change the stock at all. I could be wrong though.

I am not sure if you can change to a pistol grip due to NJ law, but you can change it in other states. You just need to make sure you meet the correct amount of US made parts on the rifle before putting the pistol grip on an MAK.

Just a side note, BATF considers a thumbhole stock to be a pistol grip.

Just meet the reqs on the AWB for NJ and the AWB for the nation and you are fine... a little looking online, you are fine.
