why don't you drive down to Greenwood Gun Club in Brazoria county and shoot the high power match they have comming up?
i think you will enjoy it and it will qualify you to buy M1 rifles from the CMP.

Looks like they will have Pistol and Cowboy action this weekend. Dont look like they have any class I can shoot(Dont have a NM rifle).

So you coming out?

I'll be at ASC Sunday around 9am. Nothing loing range though, I'm taking a couple of our Canuck interns out. They want to learn to shoot pistols, probably put a few rounds of .223 and .50 Beowulf downrange but only at 100 yards. Neither one has ever shot a rifle or pistol before so I'm going to take it easy on them.

Tim, I'm this much closer to getting my Romy made PSL, after that, I need to get with you on reloading.

and no I won't try to match any of your or even my bolt guns, just something I can take to the 200 and 300 lines.

that's what I've thought, but I know it's also known as a "science" and you can be bad at it or good at it if you learn right.

What do you think of the PSL's?

Knowing that I am not a true vintage fan, this rifle is interesting to me only bacause it is still used with great effectiveness against the NATO countries in wars still.

The caliber has great potential while the barrel and action is seriously inferior compared to the AR platform in the semi auto sniper rifles. Is there any aftermarket option like a heavier contoured match barrel?
Link Posted: 4/6/2006 3:09:41 PM EDT
[#15]
sadly no.

It's surprisingly accurate though, I've had a go at one at ASC one time.  With the right handloads, or if you could actually get real 7N sniper ammo from the east bloc countries, it's supposed to give 1" or better at 100yards.

It does however heat up quickly (the barrel) so it's groups start to spread with rapid firing.

I plan on being at ASC on Saturday morning. I'll be shooting at 300 and/or 600.

I was grouping sub MOA with turkish ball ammo. Last batch though must be bottom of the barrel. I've been having days that were sub MOA and some that were 3 MOA. I don't think I'd really reload for my PSL though, it dings the shoulder and the neck so brass wouldn't be reusable, and 54R brass is spendy...

the turks made 7.62x54r?  very interesting.

when are you gonna be out shooting it again?

for the most part I planned on just using the wolf 148 bi metal rounds.  That round was actually made for  the PSL, and that's what I shot out of one when someone let me try it.  I was impressed.  It sells for about $5 per 20 rounds, I think that's managable.

Sorry, that should have read Albanian, not turkish.

I might pull it out this weekend, haven't shot it in a while. Been thinking about going to Sportsman's but if ASC is gonna have the 200+ open I'd be up for it. I'd like to shoot for an egg on the 300 yard berm... see how hard of a shot that is with the PSL.

$5/20? Ouch. I bought this stuff for $100/880. It's corrosive but a little Windex takes care of that without any problems.

actually for non-corrosive surprisingly accurate 54r I think it's a good price.  The surplus is all corrosive, as you know, and really intended to be lead for the beltfeds.

Pay attention though, real russian 7n1 sniper ammunition is on it's way from yugoslavia.  Dansammo.com should have it in about 2 weeks.  This is what these rifles were really made for.

Well, my guess is, it is the folks that are normally "too busy" with other things to show up, that are the more the brokeback type.

For example, Marine2f2, claims to have been "working" extra on the weekends. Wait, I just figured Marine2f2 out - he actually works at "Gander BrokebackMountain."

Seriously, wind 20-30 today (Sat) wind 5-10 tomorrow.

See you guys tomorrow in the AM if your not too busy Brokebacking to make it....
