I think he's looking for someone to draw/design a logo, not give him ideas....
Link Posted: 3/1/2006 7:44:14 PM EDT
you can do it urself on the computer easy or pay sum kid like 5 bucks or take it to a pro, and boom you got urself the banner. end of story. look im just tryin to get my first AR and im short on cash being 14 so im doin my best and my personal thought is that is the best idea so far. so im trying to contribute to his projects hoping he will contribute to mine with a free Lower cuz as i said when your 14 its hard to earn roughly $1,000 mowing lawns during the summer when you get payed 20 bucks a lawn

$20? Are you in Austin?

Charge more That or learn to invest and earn it the old fashion way, sitting on your ass.

But seriously, download the demo version of photoshop and make him a copy if you really want the AR.

I disagree. Logo work, in general, is quite expensive-- even a basic logo. Much more than a basic stripped lower.

However, in the AR15.com community, helping AR15com dealers out with their logos is very common-- dealers offer up a gun-related prize like this, sometimes complete guns-- and it gives dealers many ideas to choose from, much more than if you went to one shop and had them design it for you, and this is at a very inexpensive cost to you. Thing is-- most people actually don't own drawing apps like Photoshop or Fireworks, but they seem to have them (aka piracy), hence their costs are nothing.

Tip, for you guys making logos-- you can download and try out Adobe Photoshop CS2 for 30 days [be sure to read their licensing agreement ;) ]. Not sure how fast you can learn the basics if you don't know it already though...

Just a note. I'm an FFL. You're 14 years old...so if you win I couldn't send the lower to you...

A lower is considered a firearm. You must be 18 to legally own a long gun, and if you want to turn it into a pistol, you'd need to be 21, so if I send it to your FFL he won't transfer it to you.

Sorry dude.

Oh, and if you ask me to send it to someone else, then that's an illegal straw "purchase", and I cannot do that either.

Guess I better put an age limit on this..

You could always offer him the "Cash Option"....

Only if you foolishly choose MSRP as the basis.

I think the Lower idea was a fun idea. No, for what a lower costs you couldnt hire someone to design crap. But so what. There are two things that make this deal fun. The words "win" and "prize". It's not only about that here. I would help a fellow ARfer out without it at all. For the most part thats what being a member of this site has been about. I have hooked a few fellow ARfers up, and have had a BUNCH help me out.

+1

I've submitted several designes to Coz and would have done the same had there been nothing to gain. Now, having a lower on the line is a nice deal , but it really ain't about that.

How about this: if one of the junior varsity wins the competition one of us older guys buys the lower at cost and you give the cash to the kid. We get a less expensive lower, the kid gets cash and it doesn’t affect your bottom line. Win-Win-Win.

Opps posted before reading you last message but WTH if it helps someone else make a better logo for you then it helps you and that's fine with me.

Alright how many of use the standard done to death cross hairs in your logos?

Remember this Coz, more colors more expensive and also harder to duplicate on business cards. Lots of colors looks flashy but its more expensive when it comes to letter heads, banners....etc.

And please don't pick one with cross hairs, every one has them and it's been done to death, yours will just blend in with the rest if you do.

Just some free advice

Oh Yeah, we FFL's ger Lowers for $10 or so!

You're funny.

Go to the Gun show. You see the guy with the Jerky, or the guy with Kettle Corn.

His margins are about 400% higher than the Firearms guys!

I just think sending money would be weird.

A lower is what we all want and can use.

I'd rather do that as it was the original concept.

Offering a "cash option" in lieu of the actual lower, in which you decide how much cash to give out, has nothing to do with beef jerky, margins, or how much you get a lower for.

My bad for HELPING YOU find an alternative method of compensation for someone who is going out of their way to HELP YOU DESIGN a LOGO, but cannot receive a firearm. I will be sure not to do it again.

My real reason for not doing cash is to give folks an opportunity to get a lower without shelling out $100 or more for one...nevermind. Everyone has been very helpful. Even you.

I over-reacted. My fault.

You're right about the color being more costly.

I'd guess a single color or two or three would be the most you'd want on a shirt.

Banners are costly and I'd want to do it up nice. The business cards can vary greatly.

I have thought about choosing a logo that could be all b&w or add color if suited for the medium on which it's displayed.

Thanks again to everyone for the advise and submissions.....

As I said before it's a difficult decision

Post them all after you've made your selections. I'd like to see how creative this group can be. And to see if you have good taste
