Only a D-??

I moved from the PRK to a state that only gets a D-??  Where do I have to go to be in a state that gets an "F" on the Brady  list?   Time to call our lawmakers and force them to pass whatever laws are necessary to ensure we outright fail any Brady test.   Anything short of an outright F is a failure, imho.

Failure to them, freedom to us.  Personally I'll gladly fail any test like that.

I'd like to send an e-mail to the Brady bunch regarding how apalled I am with my state that we scored a D....  We are totally slacking off if we don't score an outright F.  :)

Actually I think we have the ammo (pun intended) for an F. I think the three areas I hilighted are wrongly logged.

Child Access is a very weak law. Technically there is a law but it is almost meaningless. It only is a violation if the child has access to a loaded gun. You can toss a gun on a bed and leave a box of ammo next to it, just don't load it and there is no violation. If a child does get access to a loaded gun, the state has to prove that it was loaded before the child access. Then it will usually come down to a "he said-she said" argument, which usually isn't prosecuted. Brady missed on that one.

As far as Juvenile Possession, minors can only possess a handgun with a parent's consent. I think that most parents that consent to giving their kids guns, have taken the responsibilty to show them the rules. I doubt that many homicides or accidental shootings have happened by parents giving their kids guns. It happens when the parent has a gun in the house and does not train their kids in their handling. Brady missed again.

In the school zones, you can carry on the property but not actually in the building so "school zone" doesn't really matter, only the buildings matter. They are about half right on that one but as usual, they really missed the point.

Given all of these misguided grades from Brady, Texas surely rates an F. Maybe someone should call the Brady Campaign and straighten them out how screwed up our laws are so we can get the F we so deserve.

I spent some time clicking around on the Brady site.  It is scary how organized they are.

I'm calling my local state politicos and demand that we do whatever it takes to make an F next time.
