It begins*...............

Jake.

* In truth, it began some time ago.  I guess this more appropriately marks "the beginning of the end".

I believe the GOP didn't walk, but ran away from her!

Oh, I know she's no poster child for the GOP, I just listen closely and hear all these gears turning in the background (behind-the-scenes machinations).

I never cared much for her.  She's as much of a Republican as Kinky Friedman is a Texan.

Yup, RINO isn't even the right word.

All I can say is PBS better find a way to get all four candidates together on one debate somewhere. That will be must see TV for sure.

I must've slept through that class; who's # 4?

FWIW, PBS did do a stump piece for Strayhorn, if my memory serves me correctly.  They also did one for those twin brothers, one of whom is mayor of San Antone.

#4 = Bell the Democrat.

Her new book will be titled "How to commit social suicide."

Coming to a book store near you in November.

The really sad thing is, I can't honestly tell if you're being facetious or not.

I pray that you are.  If not, I fear that people may actually read* it.

* Note: I don't mean "read," in the traditional sense, where many people would take a book, flip through its pages [while optically scanning them], digest the contents and then think critically about the issues it raises.  Oh no, I mean the modern definition of "read," where many people, not able to commit the 8-12 hours, rely entirely on a cadre of socialists and other dangerous individuals (ex. Molly Ivins in TX; Katie Couric at the nat'l level) to sell tell them what it means.

While I don't love everything about Rick Perry, he did sign several pro gun laws recently that took affect in Sept 2005 and seems likely to sign more.

+1.

Truth of the matter is, there's no one* "good enough" for our votes.  That said, we've got to vote for somebody, else the governorship be decided by our liberal, rabidly anti-gun "friends" and neighbors.

Truly a neccessary evil.

I love Rick Perry's stance on firearms, but thats about it.  Other than that I think he's mostly been a pretty bad governor.  School Finance, and our Education system is in a mess, and nothing has improved since he took office.  Granted our lovely legislative branch is as much to blame.  I love Texas, but I hate its government.

Here's how I see it, plain and simple........
                                                  GOP
Primary duty..Get elected and do not f23k with my gun safe.
Secondary..DO NOT EVER  F23K WITH MY GUN SAFE

Cigar Boy and One old CPA need to move to N Y

Keep sending the E mails to Big Rick and he will play ball with us....................If all else fails , I know the ideal person...mean, nasty and likes our style

The problem is that Kinky is just enough of a outsider to be a real threat to Perry.
Hell, i had half a mind to vote for him out of spite.  Sure Perry has done some pro gun things but they didn’t help me ro most voters.  That's nice and all about what about the budget, school reform etc.  you know the real issues.  The GOP knows a majority of voters in Texas are looking for a change and i believe that Strayhorn is a GOP ploy to pull more votes from the Kinky camp than the Perry camp.

Sorry but sometimes I pay a little to much attention to the fact there is a little man behind the curtain.

The current state of school finance and of the state education system have been f'cked for a lot long time than Perry has been in office. The governor does bear some responsiblity, but as we all know this is a figure head position with limited powers. I place blame with the elected official we elect both at a state & city level to represent us and the school districts themselves.

Have you ever taken the time to review your local school district's annual budget? The biggest problem I see with theses school districts is they are ran like mini governments as opposed to a business. They depend on the government tit (local, state and federal) for funding with no concerns with waste. If these schools where ran like a business with profit & loss reports and accountablity, things would be different. I have my daughter in private school, the amount that I pay in tuition is alot less than what  local, state and federal governments are currently spending per child.

Oh Lord. If she lost the primary in a few weeks, she'd go away.  Now we have to listen to her obnoxious "One Tough Grandma" ads all the way until November.....ahhhhhhhh, just shoot me! Might as well bring back that comedi-anne Richards altogether!

Yup.  Saw my first "For Gov" ad yesterday.  She's serious, folks (not that she's ever not been).

I'm talking "professional image consultant" serious.  You could tell from the ad.

Too bad this light-in-the-loafers image consultant didn't tell her that "2A-friendly" played well with Texans.

ETA: Does anyone have a link to her "official position statement" WRT firearms/2A stuff?  And/or enlightened 3rd party assessments?  It pains me to no end that TSRA doesn't do sort of a "League of Women Voters"-type guide to the candidates.

Edit2: Because when I think of "one tough grandma," I think of *my* grandma.  Say hello to her little friend .38 !
