Since I don't believe a word that comes out of Lyin'Jim's mouth, I'm not sure what to think of the road bond vote. Raise all this money with no tax increase? Yeah, that will happen. Lord knows our roads are shit, but where will the State Road decide to waste the money at? What are y'alls opinions?

1.5 billion financing. It's 4 billion paid by the time it's paid back. Your grandkids will be paying for it. But hey, It's not like there has ever been fraud and outright theft with West Virginia road projects so it's money well spent

Could be worse I guess. We could be stuck in Illinois where the .gov and the gun laws are fucked up.

where did you get the idea there is no tax increase? the tax increase is already in - license plates going to $50 from $30, additional gasoline tax - the increase is in place to the tune of $130 million a year no matter if the bond passes or not. why borrow the money and pay interest on it? start improving with the $130 million additional they'll already have. Lyin' Jim says if he doesn't get the bond "we'll piss away the $130 million" - typical Democrat politician, tax and spend.

Lyin' Jim said it himself in his sales pitch. No tax increase if you pass the road bond. I hope voters are smart enough to know those billions will have to paid back in the future with new taxes. I'm positive the bastard will make sure the roads are improved that serve his business interests like the Greenbrier.

There is talk of a toll up here on I70. Its 16 miles of highway and they wanted to put a toll on it. I imagine Rt 40/National Rd would get a whole lot more traffic.

I'm voting no.  They have have been pushing an expansion of Rt 340 in the south end of Jefferson County where I live for a while, and I can't understand why?  We don't have the traffic at that end of 340 to justify making people give up their homes and farms just so Charleston can show they are "doing something" for the eastern panhandle.  All the traffic congestion is at the north end with all the traffic lights from near the casino north past the Walmart and up to the single lane where it starts to go past Harper's Ferry and into VA and MD where it is one lane.  They should build a bypass around Charles Town, if anything.

A while back, Justice was talking about all the DMV fee increases but he would do something to make the WV Turnpike free for WV residents.  Well, the Turnpike is ONLY down where he lives, and most of us don't use it.  I've used it once in my entire life.  So, now he's talking about making I-70 a toll road?  That's my second hometown area, and even if that is free or $8 per year for residents, the people don't want it.

Yet, a recent Journal (Martinsburg) newspaper poll returned something like 55% of the people saying they will vote FOR these bonds.  I might go early voting today.

If it's rejected, they have to make due with 130 million a year in new taxes. If it's approved, they sell bonds to get 1.5 billion right fucking now. Shit they fail to point out, the payback when the bonds are due is 4 billion. Guess who will be on the hook for that? Not Lyin' Jim for sure. He will be gone like a thief in the night. They are projecting the added tax revenue from all the new jobs that the roads will draw into the state will pay for all that interest on the bonds. And if new jobs don't happen we will have lots of roads to nowhere and a hell of a bill to pay for them.

Anyone else getting the push-poll on this referendum?

I'm off work tomorrow, think I'll run by the courthouse and vote.

I am still on the fence about this one.   We do need better roads.   But is the over all cost going to be worth it?

Went and voted this morning, since the election falls on the Saturday of the Forest Festival here in Elkins and the town is pretty much shut down (great idea whoever thought that up).  Pretty easy method of voting, they give you a piece of paper with the description, and a approve, or disapprove box.  You check your box put it in a envelope, and stick it in a box

That pipeline is going through the back side of my hunting property.   Or at least it is supposed to.   I think that the plans for the line were in place before jim was in office.

I voted yes. Roads are one thing I don’t mind paying taxes for. It wouldn’t require the previous tax increases if they didn’t misappropriate all their other funds, but that’s another issue. I’m also not naive enough to 100% believe this won’t result in future tax increases.

WV, specifically Morgantown, has an infrastructure problem and if this will help fix it, I’m giving it a shot.

I'm sitting this one out.  I really don't have a enough information (that I can trust) to make an educated decision.

I go down corador G/119 from Charleston to Logan a couple times a week. I have been back in WV for about 4 years now and the stretch from Cabelas to Madison has had more new blacktop put on it then any road I ever seen, but 64 looks like it’s been carpetbombed.
Someone’s pocket is getting filled for

I wonder now if they will be able to sell the road bonds with the state's credit rating. Last I remember, the rating had been cut pretty low.

It just means the interest rate will be high to account for the increased risk for whoever buys the bonds.

I guess that with less than 11% of registered voters voting Saturday no one really cared, now all of the registered voters will pay. I wonder if they care now?

Well hell if they offer a decent interest rate I might buy some bonds to cover the tax increase.
