Please contact your reps to weigh-in on these bills;

LD 351 is the anti-gun bill that would allow municipalities to prohibit firearm owners from carrying during municipal public proceedings and in polling places.  Infringing upon your Right to Keep and Bear Arms at municipal proceedings and polling places would be a foot in the door for gun control advocates.  LD 351 would be the first step in eliminating Maine’s current firearms preemption law and allowing municipalities to create overbearing and burdensome gun control regulations.

LD 9 is a pro-gun bill sponsored by state Representative Patrick Corey (R-25) that would prohibit a government agency or political subdivision of Maine from keeping a list or registry of privately owned firearms, or a list or registry of the owners of those firearms.  While federal law prohibits a universal national gun registry, there are eight states which prohibit state-level gun registries as well.  If LD 9 is enacted, Maine would be the ninth state to prohibit a state-level gun registry.

Update on Maine gun related proposed legislation;

http://legislature.maine.gov/LawMakerWeb/search.asp

The Good:

LD 9 to prohibit a state-level gun registry passed the House (122-24) and Senate (35-0) and is on its way to Gov LePage.

The Bad:

LD 351 to seriously weaken state gun preemption squeaked through the House (74-73) and is next up for a vote in the Senate (PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE SENATOR TO OPPOSE).

The Ugly:

LD 1370 to bring campus carry to Maine State Universities was defeated in the House (90-56) and is effectively "dead" for this year.

Thanks to all Maine residents who have taken the time to contact their reps.

Some great news from Maine -- Gov. LePage signs LD 9 to prohibit a state-level gun registry.

Maine is now one of only nine (9) states with this prohibition.

Congratulations!  Maine is paving the way for the rest of the wayward states in American.  LD-9 passed BOTH the senate and representatives and that's saying something.  Keep it up!  Hope the new Governor after Mr. LePage is a successful.  His wife actually waited on use in Booth Bay harbor last Fall!
