I'm a member of Cherry Ridge it's good but can be expensive for the casual shooter... And it's starting to get crowded.. The range has pulled in 150- 250 new shooting members eacg month.
I wa at the range on Sunday when they were holding the mandatory safety class and the meeting room was full (200 pp).  My sons went in May and it was the same thing.

Just FYI, on top of the $250 yearly membership fee for South Jersey's Shooting Club, they forced you to sign up & pay the NRA yearly membership fee before letting you become a member of the range.

Still going strong, private range about 150 paying members , maybe 25 senior members, hard to get in, need references from two or three members and there is a waiting list. Took me a year to get in and im friends with the vp and another board member.

You say that like its a bad thing. My club required that too - I figured it was a no-brainer. Why would you be a gun owner and NOT be an NRA member?

NOTE:   To all of you who now hate my guts for dropping off the face of the earth:   I  REALLY AM TRULY SORRY!
(had some major medical issues come up --  in addition to the trusty 'ol back not working too well)

OMG -- GoatBoy even took me out to the woodshed and  stripped off my "Site Staff" tag & cut my posts # in half. .  It HAS been a while.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK.. onto the "Range Report"

RTSP in Randolph, PRNJ :   http://www.RTSPOnline.com

It's been quite a few years since I've been to any range (related to some medical/back issues), but our daughter wanted a .22LR "AR" (and a puppy - a "Malti-Poo" Maltese/Poodle mix ), so we ran up to RTSP in Randolph.  (just a few miles away, so I sucked it up and we did the drive).   Our entire family signed up for yearly membership when they first opened, but we only shot the first time we went there to sign up and we attended one charity function at their facility last year, so it was time to head up there to renew anyway....

I must say, out of all of the ranges I've visited, (most in NJ  /  a few in PA / a few in NY)  RTSP is  -- BY FAR -- the BEST!
Its truly the most "family friendly", best ventilated, best illuminated facility I've been to.  AND..  you can shoot anything (up to .50 cal ?) ---> INDOORS!

I rate them a 9 out of 10 !   (and that's only because of the huge lines/wait time during weekends -- not really their fault, its just that we finally have a nice, clean, family friendly range
that is close by and, from what I hear, they are going to be expanding to add an additional 16 or so ports in the next few months or so....   (and they are going to be adding a "shoot house"
modeled after a typical residential environment)

It is also an added plus that they do not yell at you, frown upon you bringing in chilkdren/teens (THE NEXT GENERATION OF SHOOTERS, DUH!), get upset if you bring in a group
of shooters (for an "ARFCOM NJ/NY FRIENDSHIP SHOOT & PANCAKE BREAKFAST"
-- Many driving in from NY! and all parts of NJ & ALL PAYING INDIVIDUALLY to "Share" a few ports, because the rest had to be left "open & available" for anyone who might happen to stumble
on in.

Hmm...  when did we do that one --??  back in 2002 or 2003? --- Thank you again "Social Director HellDog!   It was very nice of you to name the day an official ARFCOM Holiday
in honor of 43rd. banning of "McUzi". ROFLMAO

(Note how nice I was in not mentioning that the Bullet-Hole -aka "ButtHole"-  in Belleville was the range/store that I was referencing.  --  and that's the way you get treated after
spending over $60k in guns/ammo over a 10yr. period -- that was my "buy toy/ use toy /get bored of toy /sell toy /buy new toy - period in life... )

ALL KIDDING ASIDE --  GET ON UP TO RTSP AND SUPPORT 'EM, SO THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE TO EXIST!  They really did a phenomenal job in designing and building out the place
and with all of the gungrabbers here, It's really nice to have a great place to shoot.

---------------------------------------------------------

NJ Ranges are dying off at a rapid rate:

I remember going to an outdoor range in Livingston when I was really young and a family friend took me there (w/o the permission of my demoncrat parents).
Apparently its now gone.

When I got my first guns (an AR7 and a Colt Combat Commander 1911) I started off shooting at "Greeley's" in Cedar Grove.  It was sort of a dump, but it was a block away from work
and  very convenient.  Unfortunately, after a few friends and I were done shooting and were at a local diner eating, our radios/pagers sent us running back.  Unfortunately, as I was cutting the first of several vent holes in the roof, I realized  would not be re-opening any time soon.

BUT..  We still had "Ray's", a heck of a long drive, but good place to bring dates because you had to pass a "Jimmy Buff's"  and could feed 'em and still have enough $$ for ammo.
(JUST KIDDING, RO!! )     They had a nice store out front for sports gear and LE gear and gun stuff, etc...
Not a great range though: difficult to breathe, dark and dingy and the idiot range "masters" would constantly tap me on the shoulder and evict me for using "Prohibited Rifles" on the range
(an AR7 .22 and an H&K USC .45ACP Carbine and an AR w/ a Ciener .22 conversion kit --  happened to me at least 4 or 5 times, but at least it was a place to shoot)
Then, (even though the "BulletHole" gang tried to convince everyone that they were going to buy them out)   Another range gone -->  RIP Ray's.

When I first got married, during my wife's "conversion process" (Learning how to shoot and not be terrified of evil, child-killing, firearms).  I sadly discovered that my wife, a molecular geneticist at the time, who grew up in the same type of lib-dem household that I did and was literally terrified of killing machines, turned out to be a much better shot than I !    So...   we discovered a range by accident one day and she and I stopped in.  It was the Paterson Rod and Gun Shop.   Not the greatest place in the world.  Very HOT and dirty (No air conditioning or ventilation),  BUT... the guys were nice  (hunter types though and HATED "AR;s") and they held bowling pin matches every week and we eagerly participated quite a few times.   Um....  NOW GONE!

Pretty soon, there will be no where to shoot and that is what truly scares me.
So, regardless of the range you happen to utilize, remember to lend them support and pray they will be there for our kids.

------------------------------------------------------
Just a side note about my daughter's "present" and legalities:

(FOR NOW:  It will be locked up in the vault at our family home in PA & she'll really take possession when she turns 18 and gets her very own NJ-FID Card --  and the soon to be required "Evil Firearm Owner / Believer in the USA Constitution" Tracking Chip Implanted into her Body at the local ObamaCare Clinic, (which will probably be located in the heart of lovely Newark).

I was initially going to get her a S&W M&P .22, but since every single shelf was empty (LITERALLY!) we were fortunate enough to have arrived in time for "box opening" time at the shop.  The only evil black gun that was in the shipment was a "SCAR .22" with a pinned stock and 10rd. magazine, so I jumped on it before any of the other customers saw it.  Traditionally, (granted... it's been a few years now since I've made a purchase) my NICS checks would take all of 5 minutes, but now that the everyone can see the bans coming hard and heavy, the PRNJ is backlogged and it's been a week and my NICS check is still not back yet, but apparently that is the new "Norm" in NJ. (and soon to be everywhere?).

I just need to find a bunch of extra mags now, buy a ton of .22lr ammo  (can you still buy ammo? or do you have to be "chipped" for that?), a case of shoot-n-see's and she'll be a marvelous addition to the shooting community of NJ  (if she is stupid enough to stay in NJ - LOL)  I'm still trying to find someone that sells GOOD QUALITY 10 and 15rd. .223 AR15 mags.   The ones from Arms N Ammo were nice, but he's completely out of stock and I  stupidly did not stock up on anything prior to this latest school tragedy.  Argh!

They have 25, 50, 100 yard a 22lr dedicated range indoor pistol range
At 2 of the ranges you can shoot at any distance if no one else is shooting there. They have a trap machine.

200 acres you atv/dirt bike, camp, and hunt. Must be given permission for those because they want it to be done saftey.
Main rule is pick up your brass you can keep it or leave it in the bins but pick it up.
