Here's a snapshot opinion for you, that made me think of the OP's question.

My wife is with an amateur dramatic group. They put on a song/musical show every September, and they are always themed. This year it's 'Stars & Stripes'. Surprise surprise it's a musical and comedy sketch compilation of US History. I was asked to video a technical rehearsal tonight. It opens with A medley that kicks off with The Star Spangled Banner which is quite moving. The final night is actually on 9/11 and will include a short remembrance for that event.

They are pretty average Brits. Judge for yourself how they must feel about our colonial cousins.

Yes, I'm still around, thanks.

It used to be a 'sport' over here, shooting at signs from a moving car, with one person driving, and the other resting his rifle on the door window sill pointing forward and shooting at the road signs as they came into view. I think it was more of a mid-west type of thing, and haven't seen much of it in recent times.

I might have one or two examples lying around here somewhere. (No, I didn't put the holes in them myself)

Gone are the days of the pick-up truck with a gun rack in the back window. I used to have one like that in the mid '70s, but times have changed. I do own a pick-up, sans gun rack. I don't suppose these things help our 'wild west' image in the eyes of those who have never been here.

I'm afraid that my experiece with Brits is pretty darn positive.  First I was lucky enogh to spend a lot of time with the Green Jackets in Berlin in 1961, and later trained with a fair number of units in various places.  When my son had a problem with internet fraud last year a number of you who are LEO's and Bradders assisted me. The only thing yu asked were naked pics of some of my female students.

Oh I have a new website myself gatorfarmtactical.com.  You are all welcome to visit.

I love you guys.  I'm being interviewed for the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Wall going up.  The Pod cast is on berlinbrigade.com.
I try make certain the Green Jackets, the Scots Borderers, and the 46th Fusiliers (FR) were dedicated and noble comrades in arms.
I just have to be back to Berlin on August 13th 2011.  If you listen t it you will understand.

The girl on the website is the wife of a Captain who is on his 4th tour of A=Stan.  He was one of my students and I promised to take care of her.
I got her through Ayoob's MAG40, took her to The Firearms Academy of Seattle. (I ran over her foot with the luggage cart so she had to go through course with a broken foot.)
Bradders, if you get here this year we will both come up.  Unless you are coming to Huachuca.

Anyway.  The 6th Infantry and the British Units were very close and we had many exchange programs and shared the rigors and the comradship of being at the tip of the sword.  If any one knows any old friend, grand parent, or old vet who served in Berlin pleas let them know about our Berlin site.

Thanks, Tim lad!

Adding to the confusion here for those who normally drive on the OTHER side of the road, it seems that traffic circles/roundabouts are now becoming stylish in some areas. There is a new one at Niagara Falls that wasn't there the last time I went, and I find it hectic enough as it is without the thought of someone going the wrong direction on it. People tend to just crash on through, not knowing any proper roundabout protocol (bullet-ridden 'Yield' signs notwithstanding).

Considering the fact that NF is quite the tourist attraction, it would have been best to have left well-enough alone. Maybe the city feels they need to compete with the Canadian side, what with the new big casino here and everything. (Gambling is illegal in NY, so they deed the land to the Indians and let THEM build the casinos... they can do whatever they want on their reservations, blatantly skirting the regulations.)

OK, I can see that this thread is completely off-topic now.

Notice that only after The Foundation compiled a dossier, they came to the brilliant conclusion that the GUNMEN (ominous wording here) used pistols, rifles, and shotguns. Are there other choices? Ah yes, the 23 mm one. Commie anti-aircraft gun? Maybe it came from a passing Shilka. OMG, it's worse than we thought!

[Dorothy]Pistols and Rifles and Shotguns, oh my![/Dorothy]

The Telegraph goes on to imply that there are sinister motives behind it all: "Whatever they are testing or rehearsing for goes unseen and totally unreported and that is fundamentally wrong as well as being sinister and downright dangerous." I guess it's the Telegraph's job to wind everyone up.

It's sinister, it's evil, and it's not very nice!

Then, a spokesman for the Surrey Police said: "Action will be taken if any offences are identified and we will also inform the Highways Agency, who are responsible for road sign maintenance."

LOL, they couldn't care less about it, but they say they WILL make sure that the signs are repaired.

That's some good shooting from a moving vehicle.

The criminals are getting good.

Doesn't it just make ya feel all warm and fuzzy to know that while the Govt is watching us law abiding target shooters like a hawk and looking for any excuse to "make the public safer", there are criminals driving around with prohibited firearms, obtained iillegally, being discharged unlawfully in drive by shooting practices on public highways so they can get better at killing people?

And the Police are absolutely powerless to stop them, worrying more about making sure the road signs they can use to control the law abiding population are clearly displayed so that we can't wriggle out of a fine when we are caught doing 41mph in a 40 zone.

Awesome

So does shooting a road sign turn a gun-toting criminal into a sniper? Is there a distance limit that you must be from said sign in order to qualify for your sniper badge?

Unknown range so the sniper context isn't applicable... but hey it's the media and thet love a good story.

Personally I'd have stuck ten shots in a 4 inch group at 600 yds...... no challenge otherwise.

I thought it was that episode of Casualty that showed some fruitcake going tonto with a Logun S16 and causing horrific injuries and death from 1000yds that encouraged such evil gun use....  I was amazed that they chose a Logun S16 since it would normally have ceased functioning after the first three shots.... then again it is black and evil and all the Liberals at the BBC would have had a hard-on about "edjuckating tha sheeple" about the ZOMGWTFBBQ deadly airguns.

From what I was told, at the end the badie stuck the Logun S156 under his chin and threatened to commit suicide.

By this time I was helpless with laughter, and the point was kinda lost.

In their inimitable wisdom the BBC decided to show this episode because it was "topical" after the Cumbria shootings and the NE Mr Potato Head debacle.

The stereotypical view of the Americans, they're loud (sometimes mistaken for arrogance) and over weight. Not sure about the silly and racist thing as a general opinion.

It seems there are two types of people here that have been to America, those that have been to America and met the americans working at theme parks and hotels and those that have been and met real americans that don't rely on tourists for their income. The first group will never understand who americans are and will only see the harsher side of people under stress (and many of them are probably not american anyway).

I've travelled, worked and just hung-out in the States many times, mainly mid-west to west coast and everyone have been more than nice to us, even going out of their way to accomodate some dumb requests from an ignorant Brit. There will always be one or two ass holes but then we're used to them, we even vote for them over here.

Of those that haven't been to the States most will only believe what they're told by the mass media, or have met tourists. The tabloids are notorious for hating anyone on the up, better than us, or who is flavour of the month for bashing. Unfortunately the US regularly comes into one of those categories, the papers will only tell the sensationalised version and the sheeply will believe it without all the facts (a bit like many americans liking Tony Blair after seeing him in Washington but not realising what he'd done to the UK). As these people are often the tabloid-buying majority the papers will pamper to their needs for more scandal and so the cycle goes on.

I wouldn't worry about it, people who will generalise on a whole country with millions of diverse inhabitants with no real evidence or basis aren't worth talking to. We'll still love you here in the UKHTF

To be fair, when I spent six months in the land of my ancestors(UK), I met a lot of Americans all over Britain. Now being a Southerner I was raised with manners and being a gentleman, and once I was in Britain I was amazed at how poorly Americans act. They ARE loud. And the real problem being is that most Americans go to other countries and expect it to be like America there. However, even I could never adjust to the fact that everything closed a 5 PM except the pub and ice was like a commodity because no one would ever give you more than a few cubes in your drink. I did like high tea however.

Its not suprising that Europeans (British in this case) look down on Americans. After all, the overwhelming majority of Americans are of European descent and mostly of British or Irish descent. The reason why they came here because they were the rejects of European society. They were poor, religious dissidents, or social outcasts. We were not wanted in Europe so we came here. We hacked it out in a harsh wilderness fighting natives and European Powers alike. This pioneer spirit and being British(pre-revolutionary experience) made Americans what they are today, sadly this history is being erased by non European-Americans wanting something for nothing.

I think Americans have a greater love affair with the British than the British with Americans. Most of us British-Americans have a certain fondness for Britain even if that Britain was an empire that only exists in history books today.

I can't say I've ever come across anyone who is vehemently anti-American over here.  I'd hate to think that we are thought of as "looking down on" Americans, or any other nation for that matter.  It's not something I have seen and we certainly have no grounds to look down on anyone.

The "Loud American" bit over here is something I have not really noticed, either.  Americans appear slightly different I suppose, and the reserved nature of the British just makes the differences seem more evident, but all of the Americans I've met over here have been exceptionally polite, kind, friendly and not at all rude, brash or loud.  If anything it is the Behaviour of some Brits that I find embarrasing when in the company of Foreign visitors.

I don't think that anyone normal would have any ill-feeling towards Americans..... If anything there might be some who take issue with America's foreign policy but that's a reflection of political ideaology rather than a sterotypical dislike of all Americans.
