Quoted: Isn't it baffling how some people seem to think, regardless of nationality, that adding more government to their lives will somehow make them "better off"?
We still crank out new cities here in the U.S. when enough yuppies and soccer moms move out to the stix and decide that they'd like to play government for day (or a bunch of days) and the sheep follow in tow.
Stupidity is truly a universal concept that knows no national boundaries, unfortunately.
On a happier note though it's a short work week on this side of the pond so cheers!

True indeed but what I do find quite amazing is the belief many of our American cousins have in the 'Braveheart' tradition of 'independence' and 'Freedom' in Scotland!
There is nothing of the sort, Scotland only abolished it's feudal land laws in 2004 and the vast majority of the population still have the mindset of the 'Laird', now the .Gov, being responsible for their daily lives.
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4048529.stmScotland has for quite a number of years now had the option to seceed from the Union with England and Wales and declare Independence, yet in the last vote 70%+ voted to stay in the Union.
When many US commentators quote Britains crime rates, murder rates, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy rates, obesity rates, heart disease rates, they do not realise that Scotland, although it only has a population of 5+ millions really affects the overall statistics because of the horrendously high figures it has for all these.
Ditto gun control. There is little public interest in gun control in England and Wales and zero in Northern Ireland. Scotland is the driving force for gun control in Britain, and yet again, this stems from their feudal sysytem were gun ownership was always traditionally very low and very resticted.
Socialism in Britain is driven by the 'Scottish Mafia' at Westminster, in many areas of Scotland, Public and Social spending accounts for 75% of the regions GDP!
If you take Scotland out of the equation, the rest of Great Britain would live in a country statisticaly not that much different some 'old' US 'Commonwealths'.
