I think that you must prove ID residence, show'em a CCW and you're out the door, or a DL and fill out the form. No wait like in cali.

I hear it is similar to Montana.
Pretty much federal minimum requirements.

Fill out the paper work ("yes" to the first question, "no" to the rest), show ID.

If you have a concealed carry permit, you walk out the door. If you don't have a concealed carry permit, they call you in, then you walk out the door (most of the time).

I will be there for a number of months, but probably living in temporary housing with my Missouri DL; does my military ID work?

Medicmandan might be right, but I think your Military ID will suffice. I'll call one of the gun shops tomorrow and find out. If I remember.....

Military ID, official letter/form showing you are stationed in Idaho, and letter/form/rental agreement showing (in state) actual physical residence should be sufficient. Ask around on base what gun shop is GI friendly and will help you fill out the paperwork.

Guys in Alaska would run into that all the time. They would show up at the gun shop with their ID and duty station form but put down whatever non-alaska state as their address and of course get declined. Guess what, while your official duty station is Idaho your address is also Idaho.

I am kind of in that boat, but not military, I am a Montana resident but work in Idaho. So, technically I can buy short guns in either state. Long guns are a little less strict with neighboring states but I forget the specific details.

OK, I called and was told you need:

1. Your military ID *or* Drivers License (where ever it's from).

and

2. Official paperwork (transfer papers, etc.) showing that you are stationed in Idaho.

So you do actually need to show residency (the official paperwork). See, I told you Medicmandan was right........!!

Thanks - my orders should suffice then.
