Hey guys, I know I have to do this (eventually) and eat the poo sammich of TAVT.  But I don't believe, from what I can tell, that I need to register it here immediately.

There is a requirement to get my license within 30 days, which we have done.  But I don't see any requirement to register your vehicle, as long as it is still valid from my previous state.

Right now our Alaska tags are good through May 2018, so if I can avoid having to pay TAVT for almost a year, I'll take it.

Am I wrong/mistaken about the lack of requirement?

Thanks!

Per the Georgia Department of Revenue, you have thirty days from the date of moving to the state.

It's really not that bad anymore.  You pay the 6% tax and you are done for good.  No yearly raping with the Ad Velorum tax.    I still have an older vehicle that I have pay ad velorum tax on each year and it sucks.

Actually it's 7%. We had to pay about $5,500 for all our vehicles...painful and yes you only get 30 days or you pay a late penalty.

Well at least if you trade a car in you only pay tax on the difference of the value of the car you're buying and the car you're trading. Still sucks big time.

Then the buyer of your old car has to pay tax on it (again).  I keep my cars until they are prohibitively expensive to keep on the road, so it actually works out for me, to some degree, but it really is nothing more than a money grab by the state, sanctioned by dealers, who were losing some % of sales to private parties because no tax was charged.

TAVT is a product of car dealers and government love for taxes. The combined effort of feeling like they were missing out on money from private sales of vehicles.
