Just bought a place that borders the Nantahala National Forest (and game land). I am completely befuddled by the NC hunting regs. If I look at the season map it says this...

No Either-Sex Season: Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson, Macon, Swain

So what the heck does that mean? What and when am I allowed to hunt?

"No Either Sex Season" means bucks only during gun season.

"Refer to page 55 for either-sex days for archery and black powder seasons"

Thanks, and that just applies to gun, so Archery is Doe and Buck by default?

In those counties you listed, you can take a doe ONLY during archery season and muzzleloading season. Once gun season begins, you are not allowed to take a doe in those counties regardless of what you are hunting with. So, if you bow hunt during rifle season you can only take a buck in those counties that don't allow the taking of does.

Ah, got it. Thanks for the help guys. I've heard the hunting isn't that great in Western NC, but it has to beat the wildlife mgmt areas in Fl. Looking forward to walking off my own land and into the woods.
