I'm interested in future hikes. I'm in KCMO area. All I have is an eagle industries assault pack though. Is that alright to start? I've been wanting to do a hike under my 14s but I can see why night hikes may freak some out.

I need to look into what all you guys are carrying I guess.

I just carry an older Kelty Redwing. Works fine but I really don't know any better

Dominor and I were meeting and doing some hikes when he got off of work on my days off. Kind of hard to do when the sun goes down however. I wouldn't mind trying a night hike however. I do not have NVGS so I would have to use a headlamp.
As far as packs just bring what you have. Throw some weight in it and bring water.

I'd be down to try an evening hike sometime.

Glad I don't have to fork out cash for a proper ruck. Though knowing my daypack a heavy load will suck

I just upgraded my pack bigly. If we go out and I have my new one you're more than welcome to use my Badlands if you would like. It's not for sale, but you're more than welcome to use it.

@Dominor would you want to try a night hike?

I currently have Fri/Sat off. Most Saturdays coming up I will be at the range working on getting dope on a couple new rifles. Really need to try to get my Creedmoor out to 1000 while I have a decent spotter to go with me. I could do that in the morning and try to hit a hike in the afternoon maybe.

Hey Guys !

This weekend is booked with family for Thanksgiving, and the other two weekends you picked are iffy for me at te moment.

You guy pick a date and I’ll work on joining you.

I’ll add my 30lb Plate carrier for a total of 75lbs.
( WTF am I getting myself into... groan. )

Just to summarize where we are at:

Date of hike being decided still:
A) Saturday the 5th
or
B) Saturday the 19th

Personally, I lean towards the 5th, as additional craziness with the election could ensue around the time of the electoral college vote on the 14th.

Same schedule as last time:
1. Camping the night before in the primary campground on Friday night.
2. Saturday morning at 10am 6 mile ruck using APC standard weights.

Differences:
1. I am not planning on us doing 10 miles as the primary hike
2. We may not have our mobile command center (aka Tree-Huggers camper)
3. Weather is likely to be cold and not as kind as last time

This is the way. I think we just need to say the 5th since time is running short again and no one seems to have a better idea or distinct adversion.

Ok, I am going to call it and say we are doing it on the 5th.

A Missouri Statewide American Pioneer Corps Ruck next Saturday the 5th in Central Missouri. The ruck will take place Saturday morning at 10am, if you are driving in that morning plan to be arriving by at least 9:30 or before. Several of us will be camping out the night before at the campground for a night of frigid fun to put us in the mood for trudging through the woods weighted down with weight for no reason. There is a conservation area range available at Lead mine, but is about 2 hours away by foot or 10 minutes of driving from the campground.

Time:
December 4th (Friday) - Arfcom HTF Meetup/Campout
December 5th 10am (Saturday) - American Pioneer Corps 6mi Ruck under standard hiking conditions.

Location:
Lead Mine Conservation Area Main Campground for camp and start of hike.

Driving:
There is very little cell signal out there. It is recommended that you download your map while you do have signal and/or familiarize yourself with the area. Your gps should route you onto the red road (Highway T then to orange, and then to the yellow line). If it does not, then you are likely going to the wrong place.

@bigbryce31186
@shelbysguns
@tree-hugger

APC Hiking Conditions:
Standard
45lb ruck not including water + any optional load bearing equipment you are wearing like PC/chest rig
or
35lb ruck not including water + rifle + any optional load bearing equipment you are wearing like PC/chest rig
Provisional
Same as above - 10 lbs

I'm in!  Mrs. ASW is gonna come too, but she probably won't be carrying the full weight requirement (I hope that's ok).

NVM, I talked the Mrs. into throwing a 35lb plate into her pack.

Is there any requirement to bring ammo/mags etc. for the long gun?  I'll be sure to bring a chamber flag.

Awesome!

Ammo and mags are not required, the only "required" item is a ruck. The APC guidelines only mention a "long gun" so that could be a 10/22, shotgun, or bolt-action if you want. I think most of us running PCs or chest rigs do it because there is so little opportunity to validate your setup in such a manner. I plan on carrying condition 3 (mag in, not chambered) just for the practice of carrying a full weight slung rifle.

I picked up dual sionyx sports off the EE after last time. They may be cheaper.. but they are also a gateway drug. My hope is that when I can afford a 14, I will have everything else already set. And I can train in the meantime.

Ha. I will be lucky to keep up to pace this time, I think I have gone 6 miles once since our last Lead Mine hike. Prior to that I was doing 6 miles about once a week.

Embrace the suck I was in that same spot last time, it definitely gave me the desire to get lighter plates when I can afford to.
