Heres a little more info than you probably wanted but....tough. I see myself as a very competant amateur gunsmith/fabricator. I have been working on my SAR-1 and VZ-24 for a while now, making bits and pieces, modifying here and there, and I wanted to share my latest fabrication. I was at ACE ltd. and saw this:
http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data/500/18816ACEFSB-med.jpgI HAD to have it...but alas no $$$$! And it was $65 more than I had! Well I sat for days looking at it and drooling over it, until I started to realize, I could make it. I went and bought the only tool Ididn't have for this job (a 3/4" drill bit which set me back $30 goddang it! Oh well now I have a good tool as well as a new FSB!). Once I had that I went to work...and in a matter of 4 hours I had this:
http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data/500/18816MM_s-clamp-on-FSB-med.jpgI clamped it on and jumped for joy!!!! But the perfectionist in me is going to make another. ACE's is 59grams and I want to get in that range. Mine is still a little heavy for my tastes. So I am back in the shop and will have the new FSB for the next shoot....Hopefully..
Anyway....I as well fabricated a skeleton stock for the SAR-1.
http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data/500/18816me-_-the-new-sar-1-med.jpgI really liked the Galil para stock, as well as the AR15 skeleton stock and BOOM tube style, so I had to make one for myself. I made everything from the reciever block down to the sling swivels, myself!
http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data/3087/19682Copper29_AK_Kobra-med.JPG The thing I am going to differently, besides losing some of the weight, on the new clamp on FSB is I am going to mount a rail to put a laser on! I can't seem to find anywhere else on the gun that will be stable enough!!!!
Well...theres my braggin time...what do you all think? Any suggestions?
