I want to take a few guns to my brother's farm. Probably a couple rifles and pistols. What are the rules regarding transport through KY?

I'd recommend them being cased, but other than that, no locks are necessary.

If you have a concealed carry license, you can put a gun under your seat if you want, but without that a firearm must be openly carried on your person or in a glove box or center console (KRS mentions factory installed compartment).

Very friendly here for firearms.

OP,

They don't have to be cased.    They can be loaded and in plain view.   However, realize that if an antigunner sees that, there is no telling what kind of lies and stories will be presented in an attempt to destroy your life.   Use your states concealed deadly weapons license, carry concealed, and leave the rest hidden in the trunk or rear of a station wagon, SUV, or similar vehicle.    Kentucky, unlike Indiana, does not have any special limitations on other legal outsiders (non Kentuckians) enjoying their time in the state.    We treat everyone the same.

You don't mention whether you have a valid concealed carry license. That makes a difference. All out of state licenses are valid in Ky. If you have one, you can transport them any way you want to. Ky makes no distinction between a loaded and an unloaded gun. The way our law is written, you really have to work hard to conceal a gun in a vehicle in Ky. They don't need to be cased. The authorities won't care who sees them or who is offended by them, as long as they stay in the vehicle.

If you do not have a concealed carry license it becomes a little more complicated. In that case, you could not cover them with a blanket or any other object or place them under the seat. As long as they were in the open and easily discernable as a gun, they would be OK. Behind the seat of a pick up could be trouble for you. The trunk of a car is OK in all situations, because then they are not readily accessible. Just remember that in the open is OK, hidden is bad.
