I think everyone is missing the real story here. The government literally labeled people essential and nonessential. It’s the most insane thing I’ve ever heard. Who is anyone to dub someone else nonessential. They way overstepped their bounds IMO and people, especially you guys, need to pick up this message and give it legs. The government told people to stay home because “they weren’t needed”. Any liberal crying poor right now needs to have this shoved in their face so they understand it.

It's more than just the government labeling people. Its a confluence of various events all occurring at the same time.
You have the government dividing people into two camps.
You have most of the media, down to the local "reporters" in full blown TDS mode at a time when the masses need facts not reality TV from the fourth estate.
A good portion of the population is in TDS mode and simply doesn't believe what Trump and those around him are saying.
You have politicians using who are using this pandemic to vie and manover for political power.
Democrats are trying to use this pandemic to push through various unrelated things and a GOPe who is spineless.
You have politicians first blaming Trump for being an authoritarian when first elected, now blaming Trump for not being authoritarian enough.
You have liberal governors saying the feds need to do more (i.e. they want more money) to cover for their own failures, incompetence and mismanagement.
Among this all you have people relying on computer models of what the virus could do as somehow factual and are surprised when those models are different then reality on the ground.

I don't know how this all plays out in the end. I do know that there is a concerted push by the progressive left (who never lets a good crisis go to waste) to take advantage of people's fears. We are probably as close as we've ever been to falling into socialism over people's fears and apathy. The longer the government keeps the economy shut down/crippled the more people will clamor for universal basic income payments and for government mandated single payer health care.

I'm not sure states like CT can keep things shut down for much longer without having their house of cards completely collapse in on itself. The state tresurer have to be telling Lamont that keeping things close for much longer is very bad for their precious state revenue.

@ONETIMER What's w/ all the rambling? How can you not comprehend the premise at hand?

The Hospitals need to catch up.
The medical supply chain needs time to catch up.
The medical field needs time to examine the virus, how it works, and what, so far, has been working to combat it.
Measures need to be weighed and implemented to get everything running again.

If this means I stay at home, for a few more weeks, so be it. Big deal...
If it means I need to wear a mask, when I return to work, so be it. Big deal...
If it means we limit social interactions, so be it. Big deal...

But, muh economy

The world and human life have existed long before the word economy was even a thought.

But isn’t that kinda the point?  “I” stay home, “I” wear a mask.....

If people choose to be cautious, cool, that’s your right.  Isn’t it also people’s right to decide if they want to wear a mask or go for a beer?

Is it our .gov’s call to make?

When the gov't is the one footing the bill, for almost this entire situation, (which comes from my taxes) yes, I do think they have a say.
Just because you're too ignorant to do what's right, doesn't justify the rest of us paying for it.

That's the point

This has been the best discussion I have seen on here in a while. Keep it up boys!

There may have been a point where isolating was helpful for the healthcare system, maybe not. Models cannot tell us for sure and if you think they can, you have no concept of statistical analysis. People are hurting and if you can’t see that, go back, reread this thread and see all the pain people are clearing showing. This has proven to be nowhere near what they modeled. Before you attack that statement, realize that the model included isolating. Now there are starting to be studies coming out that the true contracted rate maybe be a multiple of 50. Oh boy does that make a prolonged isolation even more silly. Maybe those are flawed studies but more than one has come out so there is plenty of truth in there. This is a very large topic with so many thoughts and angles that it is silly to think we can have via posts.

For the record I am blessed to still have a job and work from home. I am sad for all the people hurting for basic life needs. I am sad to look at my depressed children ever single morning. I am much more mentally prepared for this bs than the avg person due to my personal history and it still makes me sad. God bless you all and I hope each and every one of you and your families are doing ok.

Shitty and ignorant? So, a business that can't keep themselves afloat isn't going to fail? Hmm, you must be on to something. Again, I never wished them to fail.

I am in the boonies east of Willimantic and something is going on.  At least the Life Star helicopter circling, and maybe another.  Several fire engines, cop cars, ambulances driving by.  Wondering if related to Wuhan flu craziness.  Wish I had a scanner.

Hopefully nothing that will be used against gun owners.  Back in 2012 I heard something on the TV about a school shooting.  I stepped out and did some target practice for an hour or two.  Came back in the house and learned all hell had broken loose in Newtown.

Yes, the world existed for a long time before the economy existed, but that was then this is now and the economy matters.  Even if a small business owner (500 people or less) is able to survive at home for 2 months, doesn't mean their employee's can, and it's not because they suck.  The cost of living in this state is so high, that anyone not firmly planted in the middle class or higher is having a tough time.  This includes college graduates, skilled labor, retired folks and young people just trying to get ahead.  In my town we have a ton of privately owned restaurants, most are closed 100% and some are offering take out/curbside p/u.  For the owners of the ones that are closed, maybe they are like you and doing just fine, but what about their staff?  What about the delivery drivers?  What about the distributors and their employees?  My dentist is very successful and is part owner of their operation (3 dentist).  My guess is they are doing just fine, but the only thing they are allowed to do is emergency work.  NO check ups, no cleanings, no braces, nothing but medical emergencies.  They have 20 dental hygienist that are out of work, what about them?  What about the dental office suppliers?  Prior to this whole shutdown they were already wearing gloves, mask, and shields so why do they have to close down?  My barber shop owner is fine, but the 3 barbers working there are broke at this point.  They are nice people, not losers, CT is just a bad place to live if you are below middle-middle class.  All these examples are just a tiny bit of what we are talking about.  When these people can't pay their rents, then it falls on the landlords, when they can't make car payments, it's on the banks, etc. etc.

My wife and a number of our friends work at hospitals in and around the area, and they are not overwhelmed, they are caught up and actually have an extra capacity because they can't do elective procedures.  The hospitals are doing just fine.  To pretend the world economy doesn't affect you because you have some savings is narrow-minded.  To think that anyone not able to survive a multiple month shutdown is a shitbird for not being better prepared is narcissistic and cruel.

Have a house, good luck trying to sell it now, it was already tough before and it's going to suck bigtime now.  Have a car you'd like to sell, a motorcycle, anything other than guns is taking a beating right now.  Ya, humans lived w/o a world economy before, that doesn't mean going back to it is a good thing.  Humans lived as subjects and slaves before too, doesn't mean we should go back to it.  Our economy is needed to provide revenue to the local, state and federal gov't in order for this country to survive.  Like it or not, the economy is the driving force behind our way of life and it needs to open now.

If people are at risk, they should still take precautions.  If healthy people are going to be around those in danger they should take precautions as well.  We can take precautions AND open the economy at the same time, it's not a binary decision.  I know this for a fact because as an "essential employee" I've been out during this whole shutdown and things have been just fine.

How about some people learn to read w/o immediately associating it w/ negative connotations.

You want the ability to run around w/o a mask and possibly infect others, cause muh rights.
But, I'm not allowed to say things that are blatantly obvious, cause ur feelz.

Glad we've got the status quo straightened out

Your reputation on the forum dude. I was just trying to squash some heated feelings centered around you. Have at it.

In other news, it is windy out there today. I just wrapped up some yoga with the kids and getting ready to jump on a meeting. Be safe everyone!

I find it a bit perplexing how everyone is entitled to their opinion, until the others don't like it. Sounds familiar.
I also find it a bit disconcerting how all of you are somehow an expert at this, far and above those who are actual experts.
It seems the real talent isn't being utilized

If you or anyone else can't handle my words, feel free to put me on ignore.

Don't be dicks... wear a mask... if you are a carrier it helps immensely from you spreading it to others. You can tell your friends you are circumventing the facial recognition software that the government secretly has if you need to feel like your freedom is being imposed on.

Ask anyone in the medical field if they think this is just the flu. My tenant is one the residents in the ER at Hartford Hospital and when he comes home he looks like someone shot his dog with how busy it has been and how many people are dying.

I live out in the eastern CT boonies.  Was at my local dump today.  Most people wearing masks.  There is nothing out there other than the outdoor dump and a breeze.  No stores, no gas stations, no houses, no nothin'.  What the fuck is wrong with people?  The Wuhan flu ain't gonna get these lemmings nor are they going to give it to anyone out there.

Nope, I will not ever wear a mask, if you are worried you can wear one or stay home.
All this stupidity is way overblown and I will not be participating in it.
