I started bying in bulk probably in the last year or so. I used to just buy enough for a range trip or two. I just inventoried my ammo and I think I have more than I have ever had before. Here's my current assortment:

1300rds 9mm CCI blazer and White Box Vaule Packs
1100rds .45acp UMC, White Box Vaule Packs, Blazer Brass, Federal American Eagle
540rds 22lr Remington and a some Aguila Super Colibri
1700rds 5.56X45 Georgia Arms Canned Heat, Spanish ss109, and a couple hundred of crappy Natec
2200rds 7.62X51 South African Surplus
500rds 7.62X39 all steel cased
190rds 7.5Swiss GP11
600rds 7.62X54R Czechoslovakian Silver Tip steel cased
1000rds 8mm Mauser 1970's Yugo production

I need to get to the range. I don't think I'd have so much but I haven't been able to get out and shoot as much lately due to dental school. If I have anywhere near that amount this summer my shoulder will get quite a beating in my 2 months off.

You have a nice stash for sure. Its more then many people who shoot regularly.

It will become a fetish, a sickness, an obsession, weakness, a disease, or whatever. no mater how much ammo you have you will always feel like you are running out. At least thats how I feel. When you start suppling your local gun shop with ammo he cant get immedeatly or have more selection then many gun shops then you know you already have a problem

I have found myself loading up $800+ of ammo for weekend shooting anf go through it all in 2-3 days and then come back home to replace it with twice what I used and still feel short handed. It never ends.

I still shoot fairly regularly. Just not as much as I lwould like to. There's a bunch of hunters in my class. I took one to the range and he couldn't believe the amount of ammo I shot. He brought 60rds and said it's the most he has ever put through his rifle in one sitting. Different strokes for different folks I guess. He was surprised when I told him how cheap some non-hunting ammo and surplus is.

4k each of just 22lr and 38spl, and 10k of everything else combined.

Most shooters dont shoot many rounds of ammo really. I have gone through 6000 rds+ in a weekend easy. But I feel I am to a point that I will probably start to conserve my ammo a little while shooting, not becuase of cost, esp since I have a ton of ammo on hand but more for the reason that I have blasted plenty of ammo in the past and just want to slow things down a bit and enjoy being around it.

yeah, besides 22lr, the 38s are the cheapest for me to shoot, its really a shame though, as much as I shoot, I'm still a poor shot.

well I figure if I put out enough rounds, then I'm bound to hit something sooner or later.

edit to add: I'd probably have better luck throwing a gun at something than hitting it with a bullet.

I have 1 for each of my guns cause I reload everything but my .22s. & .17HMR. Should I consider purchasing another one, just in case? Oh and I NEVER put the cartridge in the firearm until I'm ready to KILL! Barney taught me well.

MY standard response.........

keep in mind these are a minumum you should have on hand.......this aint for going shooting this
is just in case Big foots try to take ove OK

A good starting point in my opinion per person

at the house
5k of 5.56 (or your defensive rifle caliber)
5k of 22lr
1k 45acp (or your defensive pistol)

at BOL
5k of 5.56 (or your defensive rifle caliber)
5k of 22lr
1k 45acp (or your defensive pistol)

stashed in 5 diffrent locations in case you bol go's to shit
1k of 5.56 (or your defensive rifle caliber)
1k of 22lr
200- 45acp (or your defensive pistol)

realisticly those numbers may be a little high but you can never have enough

If you manage to use up all this ammo between fire fights and hunting your one lucky sob in my opinion and will have aquired ammo and weapons from MZB's and shouldnt have any problem if the
need arises to change weapon systems

Bird hunting is a low percentage game for most people I'm no exception and don't even attempt to stock shotgun shells for a survival situation....... I usually have a few cases around but it just dosen't really figure into my plans......

At my current ammo consumption this would probably do me for 50 yrs
200k 5.56
100k 45 acp
300k 22lr
not counting all the other junk I shoot or what my wife and kid shoot....
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 9:05:04 AM EDT
well like I posted above, I got about 18k of loaded stuff, and enough components to load at least that much more, but I'm sorely lacking the amount of loaded ammo I like to keep around, I'm figuring like acman, but counting that I'm such a poor shot I gotta double his just to be sure I don't run out and add 200k of 308, all the rifle stuff loaded with SSTs or balistic tips.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 9:41:23 AM EDT
If you have at least 500 rds of hipower rifle and 1000 rds of centerfire pistol, you are in good shape.
Me, I've got just a tad more than that!

I'm no where close to most of you.

Yesterday I bought my first 1000rd case ever; .223 (wolf )
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 11:03:46 AM EDT
I have about 5k.

Almost half of that is .223/5.56. Then the other half or so is .45, .40, and 9mm. Got between 500-1k of .22.

I think my stash is fairly healthy though, so that's all that matters.

The lady at the register wrang it up and the total was $50.33 I gave her my card. She asked for my ID and then stood still for a minute. She started reading the side of the case and then said she thought she might have counted wrong. I didn't want to screw the place since they have provided me nothing but good service. I paid the correct price and left feeling like I had done the right thing.

Doc, you did as most of us I believe would do, the right thing. You are the kind of man I like to play poker with. I've never shot Wolf in my Bushy only in an SKS, I recently traded. I still have a few hundred 7.69X39 with nothing to shoot it in. Maybe I can bring it to the next shoot & we can shoot it up.

I bought a ton of ammo at a gun shop in Enid about a year and a half ago. Bought a healthy spattering of a few calibers as well as some random crap.

I wasn't charged for 10 boxes of 9mm, and I didn't notice until well after I got home. I went to the shop the next day and let them know, they're like, oh, okay, thanks. He gave me 5% off the 9mm. He never outright said "Sir, I appreciate your honesty" and that's all I wanted.

Fast forward a week or two later, and they royally fuck up an order from Bushmaster for me (I ordered a complete rifle as well has 3/4 of another rifle, some accessories, and requested 2 day air - I put every part # / description on a sheet of paper). Instead I got one upper and a few mags shipped standard ground. Then they were trying to say that the snafu was my fault. And of course they "lost" my order sheet that I put all the part descriptions and part #'s on.

Never set foot in that shop again.

ACman isn't worried about how much ammo you have stored, Sister! He is more concerned about how much and what colors of nail polish you have stored!

is their a law against how much ammo you can have seriously....

the only time anyone would have to worry about how much ammo I had would be if I was sending it to them a piece at a time, now should they want to burgle my house, then let them, I got ins., it'd give me a chance to rotate my stock.

Well, there are different laws on the books about "hoarding". It all depends on who's going the interpreting doesn't it?

You most certainly must understand "the paranoia" if you acknowledge "the list".

There are a great number of us on this site and different sites. It's just one piece of the puzzle though. If a guy makes a lot of his purchases in cash, or if he goes to different stores, or if he doesn't use stores at all unless he has to, it's kind of hard to keep track of what he's doing. After all, I might not own any guns at all. Maybe I'm here as a "false flag" to keep them guessing.

If a guy buys his goodies from private individuals, there isn't a record of any transaction. There are ways to "stick it to the man". These ways are only the tip of the iceberg.

I've got to throw this on the end though, it's not paranoia if "they" really are out to get you.
Link Posted: 2/22/2006 10:20:43 AM EDT
Agreed, 2B. And not only that, but do I want relative strangers to know what I have and in what quantities? It's really not that hard to find my true identity, if one really cared to look. Do I want to advertise how big a target my home is?

If you have lots of Wolf ammo stored, that doesn' t count or matter.

Very interesting you say that to my "understanding" i haven't read it it's just something i've heard...... their is a law against harding food even as much as i hate laws governing things i can understan why a city would have a law aganinst storing over a 500lbs of
black powder (just a for instance) in your home (although i do beleive if you can meet the regs to safely store that much it should be ok)...but for their to be a law on how much food a person
can have seems absolutely f'n ridiculous to me

You most certainly must understand "the paranoia" if you acknowledge "the list".

Unfourtunately i'm pretty sure i've been on it for a very long time ..
....... and yes i beleive their is one ...... and couldn't be convinced otherwise......

something a lot of gun owners don't beleive they think cause they don't care about semi auto rifles or pistols they don't have anything to worry about .......but when they figure out that they are after them too it's gonna be to late for them to join us against the they
and then their f'd
